Report on 1896 Maine and national returns showing Powers winning by about 52 000 votes, Sewall’s Bath town by 400, Reed re-elected to Congress by over 10 000, Maine total 110 000 with five tickets, sermon against free silver and tirade.
At a Batavia school board meeting the body reorganized with G A Frazier as president, John L Moore as treasurer, and John S Parrott as clerk. Other members include Harry Dennis Louis Hicks and C B M Lindsley. James Whitney was re elected janitor, praised for fidelity and diligence.
Last week’s election results name the new board for the Boston Agricultural Association. Union township selects P. A. Teal for one year and Miami township picks J. P. Friend for two years. Other appointees include 8. B. Myers. G. M. Roudebush. W. H. Miller. E. D. Prather. Bennett Bethymer. J. W. Patten. J. O. Rapp representing various townships.
Li Hung Chung was given an ebony case containing ginseng root, prized for its curative powers in China. The gift, presented by Hireh Lowenstein of Chambers Street, reflects the long Chinese trade link as ginseng shipments head to Cincinnati and beyond.
Rev Ernest Graves pastor at Newtoneville Baptist Church recently traveled to New Richmond for a church conference. He organized a McKinley band of about 100 voters with D W Mann as president and W W Hester as secretary to promote sound money and protected industries.
Edward Buvinger and Blanche Kennedy of Batavia announce their wedding for September 23 at Mrs. Belle Kennedy residence. Buvinger, longtime Batavia resident, former station master now deputy sheriff, son in law of Judge Nichols, brother of M Jamie son. Blanche Kennedy, Batavia native and cousin of General Grant, is cherished in society. Ceremony by Rev. E M Bell at Presbyterian church. Public notices include Methodist church meeting, temperance sermon, and McKinley pole raising event with ex Mayor Mosby and Congressman Hulick scheduled September 26.

About 150 prisoners, drawn from the youngest and least criminal in the Ohio penitentiary, will arrive tomorrow. Judge James Swing and Judge W W Prather spoke to a mixed crowd including Democrats eager to hear arguments on free silver. About forty new members joined the McKinley club, bringing total to 100. A follow up rally with a McKinley pole and dinners is planned for Saturday. Cincinnati Reds slump noted and Hood's Sarsaparilla praised for cures.
A large Republican gathering is planned in Goshen on Saturday evening. Delegations from across the county will attend as Hon. G. W. Hulick delivers an eloquent speech on protection and the folly of free silver.
Hillsboro plans a September 23 carnival to surpass Southern Ohio events. The program includes a 16 mile morning road race, five track events, and an illuminated parade with band concert in the evening. Prizes total 250 dollars. Amateur and professional riders from across Southern Ohio expected. Entry forms available from Jud Ervin, secretary.

Visitors from the South including N. W. Trump of Columbia 8 C son of Jonas Trump formerly of Goshen travel to Clermont with the body for burial in Goshen cemetery. Trump, now a Columbia bank director, is accompanied by nephew Bertie Triauj, a lumber man. Both Democrats, they plan to align with Republicans, like many Southern business Democrats. They are kin to David Irwin of the infirmary board.
John B. Bacigalupo, a Cincinnati wholesale confectioner and ice cream dealer, was walking from Boston to Batavia last Friday when heat and exertion felled him near Backbone bridge. He was found unconscious by Fuhr and Wageman, rushed to Hamilton House, treated by Dr. Van Horn, and later recovered. He then charged double for services, insisting the hotel sympathy carried no cost.
The popular museum greeted visitors for the 1867 season on Monday with new bright displays and a famed illusion called Demaceo’s European illusion Katinka Goaler. The exhibit features a three headed illusion presented as a beautiful young lady with three living heads and matching lips and eyes. Music of harp and violin accompanied the performance, drawing eager crowds to the reimagined house of arnua ment.
