A late night crash on Route where a vehicle driven by Neal G. Morlatt 18 of New Richmond left a side road sped up and hit a tree injuring Morlatt and George R. Powell 27 also of New Richmond. Powell suffered a skull fracture and lacerations while Morlatt had a possible leg fracture and facial lacerations both taken to Mariemont Hospital by Life Squad.

Services Held For Batavia Blast Victim Virginia Nairne
Mrs. Virginia Ann Nairne 46 died Friday at Cincinnati General Hospital from burns after a Batavia explosion and fire on August 28. Authorities say a match lit to smoke sparked the blast. gas line may have been left open after she moved from another apartment. She leaves two sons Frank and Michael, a daughter Gay, and her Chicago parents Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hodges. Funeral services were held at the family's convenience.

CG&E Opens Eastern Division Service Building
CGE and Electric Company today unveiled its new Eastern Division Service Building in Hamlet Clermont County. The one story brick facility, costing 310 000 dollars, sits on 12 acres at 3443 State Route 132 and houses offices, warehouse, locker room, repair garage and carports. About 60 CG&E staff from Gas Electric Distribution and Transportation occupy the site led by Vice President B. J. Yeager.

Two people died in separate weekend crashes. Elmer Wilburn, 34, of Batavia, lost control near Bethel at 8 15 p m Monday, his daughter escaped serious injury. both were treated at Brown County Hospital. Robert D Smith, 21, of Williamsburg, died when his motorcycle hit a car on Route 32 likely blinded by oncoming lights. he worked for Mosler Lock Co. A State Highway Patrol report notes 30 crashes over the weekend, injuring 36 people.

Mayor William Pommert and Harold Windeler led the Create a Job drive in Amelia and surrounding communities. The effort drew 124 prospective jobs, doubling the 40 job target, with 58 to 79 new positions tied to a new sewer system and 40 to 45 from existing businesses expanding. Commitments continued arriving as Windeler praised community spirit and urged prospects to reconsider relocating there for opportunity. County commissioners plan to pursue the sewer grant.
