Project Head Named For Senior Centers

Lois Brown of Milford named director for four Clermont County YWCA senior citizen centers to be opened under YW sponsorship. She will plan implement and evaluate programs with volunteers and collaborates with local agencies. Centers Batavia Bethel Milford New Richmond to open early October after a Columbus conference September 8 9 on aging.

Robert Hannah named county clerk in Clermont by 2 1 vote

Clermont County commissioners approved hiring Robert Hannah 62 former Bethel hardware dealer as clerk in the office. The 2 1 vote favored by Arthur Blake and Harold B Republican members with Stanley Cann Democrat not voting. Salary set at 425 monthly with expected savings over 400 monthly versus prior clerk McGrath. Hannah began work in 1923 at his father’s Bethel hardware store.

Highway Safety Director Warren C. Nelson urges extra caution as school resumes in Ohio. He stresses obeying school zone signs, cooperating with patrols, and watching for buses and children crossings. In 1968, 619 of 2,555 pedestrian fatalities were school age, and 969 school bus accidents caused nine deaths.

Milford Men Held In Fatal Shooting

Charges of first degree murder filed against Larry W. Bray and Ambrose D. Hall after the fatal shooting of Jack B. Jones in the parking lot of Jerry's Tavern Marathon. Both suspects, residents of Milford, are jailed in Clermont County awaiting preliminary hearing.

Sheriff's Posse Sets Western Horse Show

A thousand people are expected to attend the All Western Horse Show sponsored by the Clermont County Sheriff's Posse Horse Club. The event is Sunday Sept 7 at 12 noon at Cabin Run Lakes on St. Rt. 32 between Bata via and Williamsburg with a rain date of Sept 14. Features include cowboy relay races horse and pony events a mule race a cross country race and events for all ages with cash prizes and rosettes for four places in each event.

Car Recovered Before Stolen Report Is Filed

Batavia detective notes a car was recovered by Batavia resident Dave Darbro before the owner filed a stolen vehicle report. The incident shows the vehicle recovered prior to any formal report. Local police are documenting the sequence for the case.

United Appeal Opens Nine Million Campaign in Cincinnati

The 1969 United Appeal launches with a 9.6 million goal, featuring a Fair Share Festival at Shillito's Town Hall and Place, a gas torch lighting, and a three day public festival. Exhibits and demonstrations by benefitting agencies will fill the event with life and service showcases. Volunteers anticipate benefiting up to a half million people through 16 major service areas led by Warner and the Chest social agencies and Red Cross.

Critchell Georgia A Munz Donald MacLeod Nancy C Storch Ronald L Hutchinson Magee Adams Lyle Clymer Howard E Noakes Dorsie E Holden Joanne Meibers Leonard Harding Jr Roger E Early Frank E Savage D Michael Roberts and John W Eveland Jr Eveland serves as temporary chairman Critchell is secretary Milfords Home Rule Charter vote set for November voters choose 15 commissioners and decide if a charter should be elected Officials note Milford becomes a city after the 1970 census and favor Home Rule over statutory city government The council previously passed enabling legislation and later opposed a charter before backing a new Charter Commission election Candidates may file until 40 days before the November 4 vote David R Allison is the only other candidate filed for a council seat. a councilman cannot serve on the Charter Commission and would resign if elected to both offices.

Lykins Tire and Home Center Grand Opening Week

Lykins Oil Company opens Ly kins Day Heights center repurposing the former Day Heights Hardware. The celebration runs Thursday through Saturday with free base loans for children and refreshments. Speech Center Offers Annual Therapy Class in Clermont

Clermont opens its seventh year of speech and hearing therapy for all ages at Batavia Jr High School on Broadway. Sessions run Saturdays 9 to 11 am starting Sept 13 with three therapists teaching and a small interview fee. Contact 752-0566 for details.
