A wartime plea from a homefront voice insisting unity against division and urging support for those serving. It asserts that civilians back home will loudly back the war effort and refuses to be conquered or separated by divisive tactics.
Mr. G. M. Rhodes announces emergency crop and feed loans for livestock feed production tobacco harvesting and winter grain production including seed fuel and oil. Applications accepted at the County Agricultural Agent's Office in Batavia on Friday morning Sept 11. Loans target small farmers with first crop lien and eligibility the interest rate is 4 percent per year from disbursement to repayment.
Warren Young district governor of Lions International notified A. Ringer by wire that he has been chosen Zone Chairman for Leesburg Wilmington Washington D H Sabina South Charleston and Springfield. Ringer is a past president of the Leesburg Lions Club.
Draft Board No 2 releases a smaller call than anticipated for September 8 and 10 with 146 men available. Forty five depart September 8 for induction, followed by a larger group on September 10. Names listed include Batavia residents such as Elmer Kinner and Elmer Spurgeon among others from Amelia Bethel Felicity and New Richmond.
The Mobile Blood Donor Unit collected 325 pints in a three day county drive with 117 donors in Williamsburg and 208 in Bethel. Williams burg led with 117 donors, 20 more turned away for lack of containers. Local leaders Mayor Walter Curry and Dr. Davidson praised for coordinating efforts. Harold Nichols says unit returns in two months for extended coverage.

Dr. John Kramer son of Mr. and Mrs. C H Kramer has received a commission as 1st Lt in the U S Army Air Corps. A former Ada Ohio physician and Ohio Northern University Medical Department staffer, he will report Sept 8 to Hunter Field Savannah Georgia to begin Army duties. He is brother of Elmer Kramer, former Batavia High School teacher and now Red Cross assistant field director at Army Headquarters in Miami Beach Florida.
Mrs. Fred Colpitts of Mulberry crafted an eight by twelve inch American flag to show 100 percent patriotism and now its 50 foot flagpole waves Old Glory in her front yard as passersby view the display.
Gov. Bricker names more than 800 deputy registrars to handle the sale of 1942 43 drivers licenses for 2.5 million Ohioans. License sales start Sept 8 in all 88 counties. Names listed by county show whether licenses are for operators or chauffeurs, with many entries from Amelia Delia Bell to Loveland Ernest Bunnell and other communities.
The United States Employment Service office in Batavia will close on Saturday September 5 as manager William Williams leaves for Wright Aeronautical Corp. at Lockland. The office will stay open about three days a week under Walter Clark, field representative, with Wednesday visits for claims and future filings.
On Sunday August 380th at Sargent's Farm Glen Este, North Union Two Civilian Defense held a picnic to support the local defense effort. Harry Snell's section A sluggers beat Carl Ludlow's section B Leopards 1 to 0 in a pitcher's duel between Jacobs and Kincaid. Over 200 attendees enjoyed games and refreshments as C L Harrison thanked all volunteers and local clubs for making the event a success.

Last Friday Batavia Village held a surprise dimout. CDC director Harold Nichols reported 100 percent cooperation as residents blackout while businesses kept interior lights off except one school corner light. Mayor Dennison and Forrest Ely noted full compliance during the 15 minute darkness and discussed future complete blackouts with military permission.
On Friday evening a Batavia team of five boys will appear on the program Hello Teacher from 8:15 to 8:45 p m over WKRC. The team members are Carroll Anstaett captain Robert Slade Hugh Nichols Alvin Hahn and Tom Jenike. They will oppose Woodward High of Cincinnati with a Gruen wristwatch to the high scorer and other prizes awarded.
The Ohio Dairyman's Association awarded honor roll diplomas to five Clermont county dairymen for herds producing over 350 lbs of butterfat for the year ending March 1941 in dairy herd improvement work. Recipients include Edwin Kurtz New Richmond 419 lbs, Fred Yeomans Goshen 418 lbs, John Tytus Loveland 411 lbs, A E Stevens Loveland 405 lbs, and R G Deel & Son Williamsburg 391 lbs.
Williamsburg eliminated Eden ton 6 to 3 to stay atop the County League standings. Mt Crab beat New Richmond 4 to 3 for a third loss by the Giants. Georgetown won 4 to 3 in 11 innings against Bethel. Next Sunday Williamsburg visits Georgetown as Mt Crab had a bye and a Mt Orab victory was awarded after Bethel refused to play.
Ralph H. Stone announces Delbert L. Pugh, southeastern Ohio Boy Scout executive, as coordinator of war services for Ohio. He will direct housing, transport, nutrition, welfare, child care, labor, health, education, war savings, and agriculture efforts and assist local and county councils in forming Citizens Service Corps. Pugh, longtime Southeastern Ohio Council of Boy Scouts executive from Marietta, will work with state departments and move his family to Columbus.
The Batavia Speedliners beat Milford 5 to 0 in an exhibition after a bye in the Cincinnati Elimination series. Potter returned from a lengthy injury to pitch six strong innings, Liming followed with three hitless frames and hit a triple and homer. Three teams remain in title chase with Batavia atop the standings. Next Sunday Batavia faces Hy Pure Drugs at 2 30 at the Airport field with a final berth at stake.
