New Richmond Halloween Events Include Beggars Night and Dances

Ghosts and goblins will roam New Richmond on beggars night Friday October 29 from 6 to 8 pm with police and fire help for safety. Monroe Township also plans trick or treat Saturday October 30 6 to 8 pm with fire trucks guiding motorists. A Fall Dance at the middle school, a Fall Festival hosted by Monroe PTO, and parent teacher conferences are scheduled around late Oct to early Nov.

Workfare to be Optional in Food Stamp Program

Final USDA regulations offer states the option to add on the job training based workfare for able bodied food stamp recipients aged 18 to 60. Noncompliance without good cause could remove benefits for two months. Pilot projects since 1979 show training toward private sector jobs. Payments cover half program costs and participant expenses up to 25 dollars monthly.
