Georgetown youth wins national Future Farmers award
A Georgetown farm youth earned the 1965 Future Farmers of America Farm Electrification Award for projects begun in Georgetown high school and continued after his 1964 graduation. He is the son of Harold and Mrs. Meranda of Rt. 2 Georgetown and, with his father, runs a 320 acre farm in partnership and rents 171 additional acres.

Banks and County Consider Handling Food Stamp Sales
County bankers met with the Commissioners to decide if banks will handle federal food stamp sales. A follow up meeting is set for 10 a.m. October 26 when a decision is expected. Participants included Herb Jeffries, Robert Rohrer, and Kenneth O Briant from Clermont area banks, with Felicity and New Richmond banks showing interest. Wayne Oney outlined procedures, noting banking capacity to manage funds and the Welfare Dept. option if banks do not participate. An agency group from the U S Department of Agriculture and the Ohio Welfare Department also attended. About 1800 local families are expected to buy stamps and gain roughly 37.5 percent extra purchasing power.

Farm Groups Endorse Clermont County Hospital Bond Issue
At the Clermont County Farm Bureau annual meeting on October 7 the federation endorsed the county hospital bond proposal. Man Despondent After Accident Takes Own Life
Joseph B. Webb Jr., 72, of 01 Route 50 Perintown, shot himself at home Friday. He died later at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital after being transported by Milford Life Squad. Webb had been despondent since an October wreck in Cincinnati that killed Fannie Richardson. Cincinnati police charged Webb with reckless operation and expired safety lane sticker.

Batavia High School Completion Delayed to May
Batavia high school construction pushes from March 1966 completion to early May due to a nine week concrete strike and soil bearing concerns. The Batavia Board of Education released contractors and awaits state approval to purchase a new school bus. Supt Kenneth Jones notes proposed state standards would require 500 students in grades 9-12 or 400 in 10-12, with waivers possible if other standards are met. Death of Robert Elkins Listed as Apparent Homicide
Police and coroner investigations describe the death of 20 year old Robert Elkins formerly of Felicity as an apparent homicide. He died after being found unconscious with a basal skull fracture along Route 133 near Felicity and later died at Christ Hospital. Sheriff Watson noted Elkins likely lived in Springfield and worked in Xenia. his father is David Elkins of Tram Kentucky. No leads were reported at press time.
