Mrs. Chris Straub of Laured won first place with 204 100 points in the Courier Correspondents subscription contest ending Monday. She departs Cincinnati at 8 50 a m Monday on the Metropolitan Special with her daughter in law for Washington D C arriving 11 10 p m.
The Courier reports its subscription contest is the most successful ever with Mrs Lipps taking second prize and Mrs Jackson receiving third. New readers urged to submit news regularly. In New York, Mrs Chris Straub and Mrs Ernest Straub stay at the Plymouth Hotel on 49th Street and will return October 31.
The Board of Commissioners will likely rule Monday on a county water system bonding plan presented October 10 by twelve Cincinnati brokers. If rejected, the county may pursue a survey to study feasibility. Alfred Lefeber of Cincinnati would conduct the analysis for $23,000, funded if the brokers’ bid is accepted. The system would serve Union and portions of Pierce and Batavia Townships, including Mt. Carmel, Summerside, Tabasco Road and Withamsville.
Ohio Court of Appeals judges Simeon Ross Stanley Matthews and Richard Hildebrant will sit in Batavia on Monday October 29 to hear two Clermont County Common Pleas Court verdict appeals. Aaron Anstaett administrator appeals a death damages suit against C C Weiderhold and Homer Mosbacker over a schoolgirl's death. Erma Ousler Route 1 Amelia appeals damages from an auto crash verdict in favor of Rainbo Baking Co.
H. E. Hamlin state health and narcotics education supervisor and Ohio PTA narcotics chair will address Clermont County Council PTA Monday at 8 p m at Withamsville Tabasco School. Parents invited to attend.
Opponents of the New Richmond annexation in Ohio and Monroe Townships argue the three mile river extension, including Clermontville and Mt. Zion, offers few village benefits and raises costs for services. A public meeting is requested. council meets in November after a 60 day waiting period.
Goshen residents will decide in November whether to become a village. A resolution will be filed with the County Board of Elections. Township trustees plan incorporation, which auditor Earle Kincaid says would raise village taxes by 25 to 30 percent on current valuations of $136,640. Mrs. Bess Koch of 137 Laurel Avenue Milford was found dead Tuesday night hanging from a door hook by a belt. She was 69 and had been ill for 10 years. Coroner Dr. F. S. Skeen ruled self induced suffocation. Services set for 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at Craver Funeral Home.
Batavia mayor J F Paschal announced penalties for drunken drivers. Richard T Jenkins 47 of Batavia was fined 250 dollars 15 days jail and 15 day license suspension with 100 dollars of the fine suspended if arrested again. Police arrested others Richard Blanton 28 of Bethel fined 25 dollars costs for intoxication. John Carter Sr 46 Batavia held for grand jury on non payment of 1000 bond. several others were fined 100 dollars for drunken driving.
Members of the Withamsville Baptist Church plan a reception for Rev. Charles W. Pemberton who became pastor four weeks ago. The event at Withamsville-Tabasco School starts 6 30 p m with a covered dish supper followed by an 8 p m program in the auditorium.
Union Township board of commissioners action on Monday added 900 feet of McLean's Drive to Clermont County roads and designated Glen Este Lane in William Isaacs Subdivision as a Union Township Road. A petition to vacate Margaret Lane in Schauffler's Subdivision was submitted by 39 freeholders and residents. a view is set for November 2 with a hearing November 19 at 2 pm.
Milton F Duchemin, 21, son of Mrs Lois M Duchemin, enlisted in the Air Force in January 1951. He trained as an airframe repairman at Aero Industries Technical Institute in Oakland California after graduating from Williamsburg High School in 1947. He is serving in Germany.
The State Highway Department will build a new bridge and approaches to restore traffic on Route 727 in Wayne Township once steel arrives. Leroy C and Margaret E Moore of Deer Park filed suit against State Highway Director T J Knauer over the price of 65 square feet the state seeks to condemn for the by pass around Stonelick Lake. The Moores rejected the state's $50 bid as too low. a jury will decide land value.
