Clermont County officials push installation of radio links for the sheriff’s office cars homes and offices. Local fundraising funded under $150 with support from citizens and regional groups to broadcast Crime Station X alerts across Cincinnati area. Association and banks contributed ten dollars toward system setup amid booster efforts by county residents.
Losses from fire blight may be reduced by cutting all infected twigs and branches after tree growth ceases in fall. Remove blighted twigs, burn pruned material, and cut dead twigs at least eight inches below dead wood. Disinfectants are unnecessary now. spring pruning may require chemicals. Fresh fish boneless for sale daily at Danberry's pool room with fish sandwiches available.
The Association gathered Saturday night with representatives from all sections. C. H. Ludlow chaired and Albert Marthis served as secretary. Owensville and Williamsburg groups may join in January. They donated $10 to the county radio fund to equip sheriff’s office with radios for police communications. Ludlow was re elected president and Marthis secretary. Since its founding, thefts have diminished and members report few disturbances, plus an annual spring banquet.
Batavia High School Band invites the public to a bridge and Five Hundred party at Hugo's Hall on Main Street Monday October 19 at 7 30 p m. Refreshments will be served to raise funds for new band uniforms. Band Master Smith and manager John A Rapp urge strong patronage for a successful event.
At the Batavian Woman's Club meeting held October 10 Dr. Josephine L. Pierce of Ohio was unanimously endorsed for Second Vice President of the General Federation of Women's Clubs. Election occurs at the Biennial Convention in Seattle in June 1932. Pierce has held numerous offices in the federation Ohio Federation and her local community.
Thomas Keen of Keen Coal and Lumber Co. lost a pocketbook Friday night containing 500 in currency and 400 in checks while returning from the office in Bata via. He searched the route and reported to Batavia Bank to stop payment on the checks. currency was not recovered. His dog accompanied him.
The Batavia Woman's Club met last Saturday with Miss Lou Baum. The program featured Westward Ho responses and topics on Santa Fe Trail and Old Spanish Missions by Mrs Billa Hulick and Mrs Daugherty.
Healthy pullets in clean dry housing pay dividends this winter. Cheap feed and fair egg prices improve the outlook. Fall housecleaning and disinfection help prevent contagious disease. A free bulletin on poultry disease control is available from the Batavia county agent. Poultry calendars for records are also offered on request.
Clermont county delegates attended the 41st Ohio Welfare Conference in Akron. County officials and agency representatives joined discussions on welfare issues led by Dr. William Leiserson. Rabbi Abba Nillel Silver spoke on welfare work and its adequacy for today’s evils, inspiring attendees to improve service.
In Batavia Ohio on Oct 5 the Clermont County pastors association praised Prosecuting Attorney Forrest KE and Sheriff Robert Roberts for suppressing dog track racing and urged continued action to remove slot machines. They pledged support for enforcing prohibition laws, with Rev R L Budd moving the resolution.
C R Thompson and his wife from Cincinnati were driving on the Grant highway when they were struck by F H Barr of Portsmouth Sunday evening near Bethel. All three were injured. Mr and Mrs Thompson were taken to Bethesda hospital while Barr was jailed at Batavia for reckless driving after first aid by Dr Mott of Amelia.
A homecoming rally at Old Bethel M E Church runs Sunday October 18 through October 26 at 7 80 p m each evening. The event includes a basket dinner at noon and an address by Ex Governer Cooper at 2 80 p m on October 25 with a sermon by Rev Cooper. Participants are invited to bring a basket and join the day of gatherings and talks on present day problems.
Bethel resident Mrs. Charles E. Durham died last Wednesday at her home north of town after a 16 year rheumatism battle. Known for a patient, uncomplaining spirit, she is survived by her faithful husband two sons two sisters and two brothers. Funeral Saturday at the Bethel Christian church with six ladies as pallbearers.
Noon fire broke out Friday in Henry Reynolds residence when tar in a bucket boiled over on the stove. Mrs. Reynolds escaped as Walter Curry of Bell Telephone Company used a large extinguisher to douse the flames until help arrived. most contents and woodwork were burned. The home was saved and the property insured.
The county commissioners approved numerous payments to laborers, inspectors, and suppliers totaling thousands. They authorized road work including resurfacing Sutton road Goshen two and surface treating cemetery road Miami two, plus bridge repairs Belfast Stonelick two and Goodwin Pt Isabel Franklin two. A right of way petition on Branch Hill Loveland road was filed and W E Fee blind relief approved.
The Batavia Methodist congregation hosted a royal reception for their pastor Rev L L Cherrington and his wife last Wednesday. A fine dinner prepared by the ladies followed a self serving style and a successful event. An appropriate program was presented in the church room and the minister and his wife received a warm welcome.
The Williamsburg Township Sunday-school Convention occurs October 18 at 2 p m with devotional exercises address on Teacher's Training and Need of Religious Training, duets and choirs, special music, and a 7:30 pm Young Peoples Meeting. Betty McNair and Mrs H C Perin listed among participants.
New Richmond defeated Williamsburg 8 to 2 on Williamsburg’s home ground to clinch the Spinney League championship in the second game of the series before about 2000 fans. Brooks led with three hits in five trips, six players contributed in the field, while Witschger earned the win with seven hits allowed and four strikeouts. Wilmer struck out ten for Williamsburg as his team committed four errors to New Richmond’s single miscue.
Ohio will build 350 bridges this winter at an expected cost of 3.5 million dollars under Governor White’s emergency relief program. O W Merrill, director of highways, says the project will provide work for thousands, prioritize local labor, and speed public improvements at moderate cost. Contracts are planned to be let in November and December with strict winter construction specs and concrete protection measures.

Cameron Green of Amelia escaped serious injury when his car skidded on Davis hill. It plunged through a guard rail into a 40 foot embankment, tipping twice before stopping. He and his car were damaged but Cameron came away with only scratches and a warning about safety on the road.
At the last session the State Legislature enacted Section 105068 to bar notaries and others with limited legal knowledge from representing estates for compensation in probate courts. The measure aims to prevent unlicensed practice that cost estates money by ensuring only regularly admitted attorneys may practice law in probate matters.
Cholera fears drive large feeders to flood the market with wine and pork. Commission men reap large profits as prices start at 8 cents, reflecting the panic and rushed sale of family pork and related goods.
Apples were sold at the Batavia market on Saturday with prices from $1 to 50c per bushel. Good sweet cider sold for 35c per gallon. Varieties included Grimes Golden Baldwin and others sold fresh from the orchard at the courthouse corner.
The Clermont County Fair Board decided at a recent meeting to pay unpaid August premiums by issuing a personal note to cover the shortfall caused by poor attendance from rainy weather. A $500 county appropriation remains unpaid by Auditor Ketchum due to scarce funds, though the board expects next year’s exhibition as usual. No mandamus action has been started to compel the $500 payment.
Mrs Ella Hall passed away at her son Roy Deal's home near Williamsburg on Saturday morning at age 80. She leaves three sons Miles Deal Roy Deal and Oral Hall. Funeral from Maham Funeral Home Monday Oct 12 at 2 pm.
