Dogs in Milford area fall ill from unknown causes, some shot to end suffering, others fed ground glass near Terrace Park. The article notes recurring dog poisonings, condemns the acts as cowardly, and urges lawful solutions to the dog problem.

After the death of Amalia Nicolay of Norwood three sons learned her estate was about $20,000. Only about $12,000 was found including real estate values, with personal effects divided. Herman Nicolay's wife found four deposit certificates sewn in an old skirt: three for 4,200 dollars at Brighton German Bank and one thousand dollars at Union Savings Bank. The certificates were delivered to the estate administrators.
Miss Wilma Brown hosted a Monday evening party in Batavia for her 18th birthday with a group of friends. Attendees included Irwin Kain, Fred Strieff, Forest Miller, Earl Bunn, Hubert Seyler, Irvin Brothers, Geo Slade, Thomas Strieff, Agnes Nichols, Francis Dodds, Ellat Nichols, Katherine Jamieson, Daisy Ely, Jeane Glancy, Gertrude Bunn, Dell Knauer, Myriam Stephens, Lois Stephens, and Laura Hauck. Refreshments were served, and guests departed at 10 o clock wishing her further birthdays.
Jeremiah of Union Township and Mulloy of Goshen visited Batavia last week to file nomination papers for delegate to the Constitutional Convention. Both men are described as liberal, experienced in business, and willing to meet opponents halfway on the day’s issues.
The Xenia council adopted an ordinance authorizing issuance of 40000 in bonds to build a new sewerage disposal plant and set an election to decide the bond issue for January 16.
E M Minnis of The Loveland Enterprise reports Mr McMinnis pledges support for Initiative Referendum and Recall and Recall of Judges. He would cap tax rate at one percent, abolish probate courts, move to common pleas court and limit legislative sessions to 60 days. He also backs merit value taxation, jury system reform, 15 percent state and county salary cuts, direct election of U S Senators, and public primaries.
Clermont county delegate candidate J. G. Ragland outlines farm , tax reform, and recall policies. He backs initiative and referendum, home rule for cities, separate liquor question, and popular vote for U.S. Senators, stating he seeks substantial reform for farmers and small landowners.
Denver M. Howard of Aberdeen and Hazel S. Johnston of Bethel wed at the Batavia M E parsonage on October 5 1911 with Rev. E Burdeau officiating. That evening Emery Gilmore of Milford and Lucy Dumford of Stonelick also united in marriage at the same venue with Rev. Burdsall officiating and plan to reside in Fast Milford after October 15.
Adams county commissioners told Auditor C. B. Daulton to publish notice that hauling heavy loads on county pikes must stop from December 1, 1911, to April 1, 1912. Clermont county commissioners were urged to act similarly and prosecute violators to the limit.
The Batavia public library will reopen Thursday for books to be received and taken as it resumes service after repairs. The institution is described as greatly needing community support and assistance.
Elton Miller of Batavia topped a strong field of Kentucky and Ohio horses at the Georgetown fair last week with his sorrel mare, hailed as hard to beat by local observers.
Pleasant gathering by the Old School-mate's Club at Locust Corner on September 30. Mrs Olive Duckwall hosted in a country home with a transformed carriage house as a school, a ledger from 58 read by Mrs John Woodlief’s absence, and Dr Behymer acting as teacher. Attendees included Dr Edwin Behymer Elijah Mattox Addie Clark Mrs Wamsley Jasper Tone and Olive Duckwall plus Mrs Webber of Los Angeles and the Clarks. The group enjoyed songs recitations lunch in tin pails cake doughnuts cider coffee pie and candy. A day long remembered with hopes for more such gatherings.
Adams county prepares for the formal dedication of its new courthouse in West Union on Wednesday October 25 1911. A general dedication committee has been named with plans to outline the day’s program and coordinate speakers from afar. The steel furniture and filing cases have arrived and will be installed before occupancy and installation of county officials.
Clermont Oil and Gas Company of Milford filed incorporation papers in Columbus with a capital of 50000 dollars. It already holds oil and gas leases on about 5000 acres east of Milford and Goshen and plans extensive tests in the Milford area. Principal movers are M. Hudson of St Marys L. M. Clark and George Rowkwell of Milford with Cincinnati capitalists interested. Four test wells are expected to be sunk as the district has yielded pockets of gas in water drillings.
The Batavia Woman's Club met at Mrs Minnie Griffith’s Main street home after a postponement due to illness. Three ladies were ballot ed for membership and elected: Mrs Harry Aultman Mrs Frank Hulick and Mrs Stirling Moore. The next meeting will be with Miss Louise Baum hostess Saturday October 14 at 2 30.
Mrs. Jennie Titus, a member of the board of charities, is in Cleveland this week for the State Board of Associated Charities meeting. Every county in the state is expected to be represented, with each county covering its representative's expenses.

Items include two work horses and harness two wagons cultivator hay cutting machine harrow 48 tomato boxes eight cows one fresh two heifers two sows eleven pigs 300 shocks corn in fodder six milk cans.
The Lebanon high school graduation plans to restore the old custom of each graduate delivering an oration after last year's trial of a single speaker. The class committee decided this year to revert to the traditional format.
The 70th O. W. L. holds its Golden Reunion in Brown county at Russellville on October 19 and 20. The call invites all members to attend the 60th anniversary of their enlistment and to greet the Young America hosts who offer to entertain them.
Miss Velma Grace Hodges daughter of Henry A Hodges and Henderson Grover Hightower of Covington were united in marriage by Rev C N Van Pelt at the Hodges home in Milford last Thursday night. The ceremony took place in a parlor garlanded with smilax and flowers, no attendants, with 86 guests. Hodges wore Irish linen tissue gown over ivory satin with train. Veil was a simple tule arrangement and orange blossom wreath. The couple’s union reflects Hodges family status in Milford.
The auction sale of lots in Gregg's addition to Batavia was postponed from last Saturday to Saturday October 14 at 1 o'clock p m due to weather. The sale will occur rain or shine with lots offered at liberal terms and only ten dollars cash to own a lot as streets and sidewalks are being built. Come early to secure a prize lot.
Bethel presents a five act program hailed as the best lecture and entertainment series in southern Ohio. The October 27 lineup features The Kaffir Boys from South Africa promising royal entertainment. Season tickets are $1 at Scott’s.
The Bethel Hotel once run by Lee H. Colter for a year has been sold to William Hancock and his son of Carthage Ohio. Colter plans to return to Florida for business. Hancock and son arrive well recommended and are expected to be welcomed by Bethel residents.
