Jail Delivery Foiled at Batavia County Prison
Sheriff Roberts blocked a planned night escape by 14 inmates at Batavia County Prison. Deputies searched the jail unannounced, finding three hack saw blades in a cot and noting bars sawed on a second tier. Frank Smith confessed, naming Alex Curtis and Robert Lanham as involved. Curtis later convicted and sentenced.

Relief money allotted for drought victims in Clermont county has not been drawn in any case. Conditions have improved with tobacco housed, a fair crop, corn harvested for fodder, and soy bean hay cut and cured. Farmers now enter winter better off than expected.
