Three Batavia Men Hurt in Auto Crash at Rail Crossing
Three Batavia men in a Ford touring car collided with a westbound freight train at the N W crossing Sunday night 7 30. Fred Smith suffered a fractured skull and a broken leg, Pete Wasner had internal injuries and a broken jaw, George Henderson had a broken arm and leg with a head wound. Wasner died Monday night, Smith and Henderson were hospitalized in Cincinnati with serious injuries. The wreck shocked Batavia residents as the crossing has long been regarded dangerous.

The Peerless Creamery Co truck carrying cream and eggs overturned on Williamsburg hill Saturday afternoon after brake failure. Emerson Boyd, the driver, escaped with minor bruises while about 150 dozen eggs and several cans of cream were ruined in the ditch.

Loveland Young Man Howard Caldwell Dies in Blanchester
Howard Caldwell born Loveland 1899 died last Wednesday in Blanchester after typhoid fever. He lived in the area, worked at Ful-Flo Specialties in Dayton, and returned to Blanchester five years ago with his wife. Funeral held Friday at 2 p.m. at his home, led by Rev Allamong of Martinsville Christian Church. Survived by wife and small son Billy. Bethel Band in Demand for 147th Infantry HQ
In Bethel Ohio October 7 a Cincinnati conference discussed placing the 147th Infantry Band headquarters in Bethel Clermont County. Colonel Ross sought a non union band to replace the unsatisfactory union ensemble. Bethel leader Mr Fisher and C C Kearns praised the Bethel band. Isher says a 28 piece temporary band can perform, possibly expanding to 48 with the job. Members will be paid for practice and accompany the regiment two weeks annually. Music, instruments, uniforms furnished. pay varies by instrument. The effort excites Fisher and his band. The Past Grands Association of the Seventy-fourth district meets October 17 in Aberdeen Brown County with Grand Master George Neffer presiding.

Temple Home Destroyed In Lindale Fire In Lindale Ohio
The home of Andrew Temple in Lindale was destroyed by fire on Tuesday morning discovered about 11 by Mrs. Temple. Temple, nearly 90 and an invalid, was saved by neighbors. A bucket brigade failed to stop the blaze. no insurance was held. The couple moved across the road to the old George Temple home as plans for the future remain undecided. The fire, aided by lack of a telephone alarm, drew a large crowd only after the fire gained headway. The 1871 house was one of Lindale’s finest. some household goods were saved. also noted is the sale of Citizens Garage Amelia to Bert Schrugan of Ten Mile and continued operation by existing staff.
