A New York letter dated November 11, 1884, from about twenty leading physicians urges immediate action to disinfect all old rags imported from Europe to prevent Asiatic cholera. Signatories include professors and doctors such as John C. Draper and Doremus.
A shed on Delaware Creek four miles from Toledo exploded at 10 AM sending a blast heard forty miles. Windows shattered across Broadway, a spring wagon was hurled, and an old shed keeper Fred was scorched but survived. People fled as flames sparked and fences fell.
Troy Missouri November 13 Green Thorn aill who murdered his wife at this place days ago is trying to kill himself by refusing food. He has not eaten since imprisonment and says he will not eat again. After the murder he tried to strike his own head with an ax but failed. He is intent on dying by self starvation.
Philadelphia reports a surge of counterfeit ten dollar notes from the National Bank of Cincinnati. The fake notes are from the 1882 series with distinctive numbers and were passed to several Camden businessmen. four succeeded today. An arrest in the case is expected tomorrow.
In McPherson Kansas on a November day in 138 August Tuxhorn a farmer started a blaze consuming his house barn and granary and then killed himself with a shotgun. The home contained 4000 in cash and total loss reached 11000. Evidence suggested he planned to murder his wife and four children, but the wife thwarted the design.
Washington reports the Comptroller of the Currency notes an increase in national banks with greater aggregate capital than ever before. There are 721 national banks with $189 million in capital, expected to grow further this year through charter extensions or reorganizations.
The National Board of Health sent a long cholera memorandum to the New York State Board of Health. Local officers were notified of the rapid European cholera spread and urged to establish and enforce a quarantine to prevent invasion of the United States.

Washington reports the Commissioner's Pension Bureau annual findings for the year ended June 30 1884. There were 322756 pensioners including army and navy invalids widows and survivors. New pensioners added 34192 and 1221 restored. net increase 19098. Average pension value 106.75 dollars. total value of pensions 3445660 dollars. Amount paid 56908597 dollars, with arrears and unpaid cases totaling millions and claims filed since 1861 reaching 927922 with 545130 allowed. The Commissioner urges remedial legislation to ease claim burdens and speed justice for veterans.
In Colums County Ga on November 12 a family of four was poisoned at breakfast. Jeff Biggers and his son J W Biggers survived minor illness while Mr. and Mrs. Burgess died within hours. Police suspect several nearby Black residents linked to a prior burglary case. Arsenic-laced milk allegedly entered the cook-house via Mary Davis. The house cat died after licking vomit.
In Lacrosse Wisconsin on November 12 Marga ret Ecker a servant girl was shot and killed by C W Bunn a law partner of U S Senator Angus Cameron at nine o'clock last night Three visitors tried the rear then front door bell while peering at the door screen Bunn fired through a window striking the girl in the heart no condition given for the other two people involved or their fate
Masked robbers forced entry at 10 p.m. into Captain John Morrow’s Mansfield house binding Mrs. Morrow and her friend McCoy and ransacking the residence. They escaped with 500 dollars cash and valuables. The women freed themselves next morning. Mrs. Morrow is gravely injured and may not recover.
Official returns show Blaine with 43,166 votes, Cleveland 39,166, St. John 1,573, Butler 552, aggregate 84,457. Blaine leads by about 4,000 with a 1,875 majority. Currier wins, while Reyes trails for Governor.
Nashville factory accident reports fourteen year old Eugene Pucket employed by Grubbs Kemker Company cracker and candy works lost his foothold on the sixth floor and fell through a hatchway to the cellar breaking his neck in a horrific crush. The incident occurred on November 12.
The schooner La Victoire capsized near Pilgrims on Tuesday while seven crew members from Quebec were aboard. None have reached their destination and they are presumed lost.

In Krirranning Armstrong County a fourteen year old boy stripped his younger sister and placed her on a red hot stove while her brother was away. The girl suffered severe burns and her life is despaired of. The incident occurred near Dayton in Armstrong County.
In Lapeer Michigan on November 12 Mrs. Emily Hart wife of a prominent attorney was killed by a Chicago and Grand Trunk Railway train as she tried to drive a cow from the rails. The accident occurred in the city when the cow obstructed the line.

New York data for October shows 36 441 immigrants arriving and 7 977 US citizens returning from abroad. For the ten months ending October 1884 total immigrants reached 414 324, down from 501 037 in the same period a year earlier.

Detroit Mich November 14 Several weeks ago John Downey and wife of Windsor Ont destitute mutually agreed to drown themselves in the river. The wife did so but the husband's courage failed him He was arrested for murder when the wife's body was found but discharged upon true facts. Downey fulfilled his death contract by hanging himself. Troy New York November 14 A boy named Benjamin Danks employed at Burden's Rolling Mill while oiling the machinery became entangled drawn through the rolls and torn to pieces.
