Official vote tally due Monday in Clermont County
On Monday November 19 the Clermont County board of elections will complete the official count of the November 6 ballots. Absentee votes from abroad will be added, while one set of ballots remains uncounted as Ringland’s court date approaches. The 76.9 percent turnout fell short of director Alberta Cook’s 78.1 percent target, despite a record 160 precincts handling the count.

After three years of planning, seven counties begin using the program for primary math English composition and reading. Next year intermediate grades will join, then secondary grades in following year, with phased rollout to allow teachers to adjust before diplomas. Clough Elementary principal John Abegglen notes positive reaction. teachers report new pretests show what students already know and plan retesting. Laura Gardner, a third grade teacher, says parent volunteers will aid tutoring and student records. Sawyer says tests provide feedback on what pupils learn and need, aiding individualized instruction. Tests are low-key, scores not published, and committees of teachers and principals spent a year crafting the plan.
