Clendenin Wins Surprising County Commission Victory
BATAVIA Charles E. Clendenin defeated incumbent Democrat Jerry L. Carlier for Clermont County commissioner by 52.2 to 47.7 percent. Clendenin credited moral, fiscal priorities and Reagan-era cross‑party appeal. He plans a jail funding fund from sales tax money and to run government within its means. Carlier acknowledged the trend and congratulated the new commissioner.

In Clermont County many village township and school district measures passed Tuesday with only Goshen Township rejecting a plan to convert an old fire house into offices. Police levies in Miami Union and Goshen renewals passed or increased funding without tax hikes, funding officer pay and equipment. Reagan landslide caps Clermont County presidential vote
Three of every four Clermont County voters backed Ronald Reagan Tuesday, giving him 74.6 percent of ballots with 36,301 votes. Walter Mondale Ferraro drew 11,710 votes (24.7 percent) and seven other tickets shared 288. Judge Lawrence Carlier won an unopposed race by 803 votes.
