A Clermont County retailer reports a surge in nylon bikini shorts sold to women for themselves rather than husbands. A clerk notes familiar customers at that counter and advises measuring waists to avoid embarrassment, joking about the market impact.
The Union Township Community Council hosts a public meeting Friday November 20 at 8 p m in Williamsville Tabasco school auditorium. County planning director A E Suro and County Commissioners Don Ison Charles Clark Zenas Anstaett plus County Engineer Carl Rush present proposals and answer questions on the county planning program.
John Wilson president of the Batavia Business Men's Association sustained a broken left foot at 5 p.m. Monday when a plank fell from a scaffold on the building shared by his real estate office with his brothers. The injury occurred while he assisted a worker with the scaffold. Wilson also serves as secretary treasurer of the Clermont Warren County Board of Realtors.
Williamsburg residents plan to air Charles Garner, the sidelined Williams burg grid captain paralyzed in a swimming accident, from Our Lady of Mercy Hospital for the final game. The American Legion Auxiliary will host an oyster supper at East Main Street hall on Saturday November 14 with proceeds to Garner. Two cash awards will be given.
Robert Crowe of Batavia says Hamilton County's Children's Protective Service now extends to Clermont, with power to investigate cruelty, remove children to safety, and prosecute offenders. In five weeks, 11 cases covering 35 children were accepted, with 27 family cases referred for study. toll free information is available at Zenith 1 5414. The Cincinnati Area Community Chest is urged to fund the extended work in Clermont County.
County commissioners approved updated subdivision specifications to govern streets storm sewers curbs sidewalks and sewage disposal with sidewalks required only on narrow lots except along major highways. General road width set at 25 feet and sewer mains near facilities. Planning Commission approval required for plats. a contested West Homestead Acres case prompted stricter adherence. The County Bar Association backed the plan and offered help clarifying ambiguities.
Bethel village invites bids for its proposed sewer project estimated at 585000 dollars. Bids will be opened December 15 as Mayor Charles Hook notes. To qualify for a federal grant of 58050 dollars, contracts must be awarded before January 1, 1959.
In Common Pleas Court the American Legion Post at Williamsburg seeks authority to sell its former home and use the proceeds for a community building for members. The 1921 deed by Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Waite required sale proceeds to fund a community building with suitable quarters for the post, or revert to the village and township if unused. Attorney John Moore of Batavia represents the post.
The Clermont County Volunteer Bureau invites county women’s groups to a county-wide seminar at First Presbyterian Church Batavia on Monday November 16 at 10 a.m. Representatives from church Women’s groups will learn about bureau needs opportunities and the Friendly Visitor film. Speaker Mrs Lulu W Thayer director of the Hamilton County Volunteer Bureau will headline.
An unidentified caller warned of a planted bomb at Batavia High School. Police and a full search found no device. Superintendent Paul Hopping attributed the threat to malice and planned a normal reopening Thursday with an extra day added at year’s end to make up the closing.
Batavia Police Chief Ed Colonel will assist with affidavits without pay until a county law dispute is resolved. Judges Rosenhoffer and Osborne say Ralph A. Parker must issue warrants and take affidavits under the new clerk of counties law, while Parker disputes the duty. The clash arose after farmer William Baumann was shuffled between offices seeking a warrant, leading Sheriff Dericks to intervene.
Mrs. Elsie Cummins, 65, of Milford, suffered second and third degree burns when her dress ignited at a kitchen stove. Neighbor Mrs. Lieske beat out the flames with her hands, covered her with a blanket, and the Milford Life Squad transported her to Our Lady of Mercy Hospital where officials say her condition improved to fair from critical.
West Clermont board approved detailed architectural drawings for a new high school, Summerside elementary expansion, and 16 additional classrooms. State approval needed before bond sales, with funds totaling 1,986,422 including state aid. Construction to start early spring pending state clearance. MT.
