Tax On Food For Home Use Goes Off Today

Armistice Day 1936 marks two changes for Ohio residents. The state ends the three percent sales tax on food for human consumption sold off premises, while restaurants and similar venues keep collecting tax on food served. The Tax Commission defines food and outlines which items remain taxable and which vendors must file specific sales tax reports.

Farm Woman's Club Elects Officers for New Year

East Hill Farm Woman's Club met November 5 with 16 members and three guests. Mrs Lena Budo led a misc program of readings and poems by Mrs Carmilla Villari and others. New officers are Anna Maham president Helen Holman vice president Elizabeth Combs secretary Florence Salter treasurer Carmilla Villari press reporter. A Thanksgiving party for members and families will be at Mrs Margaret Bushbacker's home November 28.

Amelia and Williamsburg B home game opens season

Amelia High School meets Williamsburg High School Friday night in the season opener at 8 p.m. Admission is 10 and 25 cents. The game acts as a warm up for the league opener scheduled for the following Friday night.

Hobby Fair and Community Festival Highlight Batavia and Williamsburg

Batavia hosts the first Hobby Fair at the Armory on November 19 with exhibits from attics and shops, a food booth, and a pottery and glassware sale to support preserving a historic sycamore tree. Williamsburg's first Community Festival follows on November 18 at the high school, featuring egg grading demonstrations, extensive premium classes, home economics displays, and a shop class exhibit with a 25 cent entry ticket.

Bannister 82 Dies at Bethel Local Clerk and Official

W H Bannister 82 longtime Tate Township clerk and former Clermont County Clerk of Courts died at 7 am Tuesday at his Bethel home after a brief illness. Born in New Richmond he lived in Bethel area most his life and once owned M J Swing store. Funeral set for Thursday at 2 pm.

Granges Elect New Officers

Monroe Grange No. 2018 elected Melvin Busch master and named officers including Louise Rogers lecturer Lulu Phillips secretary and William Tatman executive committee at a November 6 election. Williamsburg Grange No. 1999 followed with master H C Rowan and Kather ine Kellum as officers listed and a Thanksgiving program planned for November 21.

Plan Leadership Training School Opens At Amelia Church

The Methodist and Baptist Churches of Amelia Lindale and Hamlet area unite for a five week leadership training series at Amelia Methodist Church. Classes run Mondays 8 to 9 30 pm with a 15 minute devotion each evening. Batavia pitcher Allen Boles Jr captured four straight horseshoe games Sunday at Sunken Air Port, defeating last year’s champion Harry Henn. Cold Springs Kentucky’s David Gresset took eighth prize as Boles received a cup and ten dollars.

Special Meetings Open at Monterey Monday

Public invited to two weeks of meetings starting Monday night at the Monterey church led by Rev. Smith of New Vienna. Ohio Public Health Association plans a Christmas Health Seal sale Thanksgiving to Christmas with a goal of 225000 to fund tuberculosis work and care. Wrestling Card Announced at Mistletoe Club New Rich mond

The weekly wrestling card at the Mistletoe Athletic Club in New Richmond features Frankie Bohn vs Joe Weggesser and George Kinnaird vs Nobel Conley. Last Friday Bohn defeated Weggesser two falls to one due to Weggesser’s disqualification. Matie Matick upset Nobel Conley by sweeping the final two falls.

Batavia High to Dedicate New Gym in November

The Batavia High School gymnasium, 65 by 40 feet, will be dedicated Saturday night November 21 as the boys and girls teams open the 1936-37 season against Amelia High School. Tickets are 25 and 15 cents. the event tops Batavia sports news with Coach Gerald Rockwell entering his first year. The boys feature Louis Grace and Porter Auxier among hopefuls, while the girls include Lauretta Rumpke and Velma Henderson with several others showing promise. The squad will wear new uniforms for the occasion.

Former Clemontor W O Weaver Dies at 71 in Fletcher Okla

Former Cleborne county official W O Weaver aged 71 died Monday November 2 at his Fletcher Oklahoma home after a 15 month illness. He served as Comanche county commissioner from 1905 to 1915 and was a Mason and Methodist Episcopal church member. Surviving are his wife a son J M Weaver a daughter Mina Harney two grandchildren and a late daughter Ethel Maud. He was born December 19 1864 near Batavia Ohio.

Clermont Budget Board signals lower tax rates this year

The Clermont County Budget Commission said most taxpayers will see tax reductions as rates for December real estate tax collection are prepared. Most districts likely to cut, some increases, with rates sent to the State Tax Commission for approval. A special December election in Batavia and Bethel to approve a three mill operating levy for two years is planned to maintain state Foundation program participation. The Bethel board was to meet to discuss the election.

Auditor Reports County Tax Distribution Totals to Districts

The county auditor Blythe Jones reports the distribution of tax monies to numerous districts. Amounts include Amelia 6560.75 Batavia 7581.59 Bethel 7551.78 Branch Hill 2391.14 Edenton 749.57 Felicity Franklin 4845.39 and many others across townships and villages with several inheritance tax components noted.
