Dead Youth Killed In Car Crash On SR 132 Near Clermont

Elisha H. Short Jr. a 16 year old from Amelia died Friday night when his car struck a culvert on SR 132 at the end of Harold Bissantz’s driveway. The car flew 119 feet then rolled down an embankment after hitting a guard rail. Funeral services were held Tuesday in Bethel with burial in Mt Moriah Cemetery Williamsville. Survived by parents two sisters and three brothers.

13th Annual Needy Kids Christmas Fund Underway

The Clermont County Needy Kids Christmas Fund, run by the American Legion and Clermont County Council, seeks donations to aid local children. Ohio school foundation program distributes 41 million_plus

State Auditor Joseph T. Ferguson reported that Ohio distributed a net 41,369,633.64 dollars directly to school districts under the school foundation program. Nine Clermont County districts shared 845,163.86 dollars.

Clermont County to establish Public Defender program

Clermont County Commissioners and Common Pleas Judge Louis J. Schwartz plan a Public Defender program effective January 1 1973. The $20625 budget funds a director at 65 percent time and a half time assistant director plus a secretary, with the county covering facilities and supplies. Qualified attorneys will represent indigent defendants in all county courts including appeals to the Court of Appeals and Supreme Court.

Ohio counties share flood land lease funds in Auditor’s report

Eleven Ohio counties including Clermont receive 20335.32 in flood control land lease revenue from the Auditor of State. Clermont gets 4475.80 while others receive amounts such as Portage 6029.62 Trumbull 903.75 and Warren 2924.93. Federal law allocates 75 percent to the U. S. Treasury and the rest returned to the state for schools and roads.

Group challenges AEC decision on Zimmer Nuclear Plant permit

A new group named Ohio Valley Citizens Concerned about Nuclear Pollution OVCC challenges the Atomic Energy Commission approved permit for the Zimmer Nuclear Power Station at Moscow. OVCC hosts a 6:30 p.m. New Richmond High School forum to question Cincinnati Gas and Electric Co. claims that nuclear fission energy is safe and that the plant brings jobs and tax revenue. The event invites public questions and features experts from genetics and nuclear physics among others.

State Seeks Federal Aid for SR 28 Upgrade in Clermont County

Clermont County commissioners plan to apply for about 1.24 million dollars in federal funding within 90 days for a 3.28 mile four lane expansion of SR 28 including a 0.68 mile interchange. A bridge on Shayler Road will be replaced with a bid of 96,440 dollars, and a second bridge is slated for next year. An 80 percent federal grant may support a 3.2 million sewer system for Nine Mile Creek area south of SR 125, with representatives from the Economic Development Administration and Ohio Valley Regional Development Commission present this week to gather data.
