USO Drive Report Shows County Ahead of Quota

County USO Chairman B. N. West reports district totals as of Monday night. Quotas and receipts show Batavia 2550, Franklin 1500, Goshen 550, Jackson 300, Miami Loveland 1700, Miami Milford 1700, Monroe 1250, Pierce 726.37, Stonelick 2400, Tate 1290, Union 359.75, Washington 228.50, Wayne 900, Williamsburg 0, with total 17625 against a 17520 quota.

Mt Carmel Glen Este Schedules Minstrel Show

The Mt Carmel Glen Este P T Music Committee presents a home talent minstrel show on November 10 and 11 at 8 30 p m at the school. Proceeds fund music books enabling all eight grades to receive public school music instruction this year for the first time.

Charles M. Green former Milford resident and Remington Arms executive is named Vice President in charge of manufacturing at Sperry Corporation New York. He will relocate from Bridgeport Connecticut to Long Island with his wife. His daughter Dorothea Thompson's husband Navy Lieut John Thompson is stationed in New Orleans. Green's sisters Alma Alice and Magee Adams remain in Milford.

Dewey Leads in Clermont County with GOP county gains

Clermont County voters backed national and state Republicans led by Dewey with 9,089 to 7,931 for Roosevelt. Taft tally stood at 7,927 across 54 precincts and Pickrel had 7,538. Local gains included judgeships, two county commissioners, and county recorder as Republicans won most county offices.

Felicity Fire Destroys Two Homes Amid Drought

In Clermont County Felicity firemen under Chief Jon Morrison battled blazes fueled by low cistern water. The elderly Mrs. Marquaret Rumsey died after being rescued from her burning home. her grandson Leon Rumsey lived nearby. Mrs. Jeff Cummins’s house adjoining burned with no injuries reported. Investigation cites a spilled kerosene lamp after Rumsey’s fall.

Batavia Grange hosts Locust Corner visitors at meeting

A large attendance welcomed Locust Corner Grange at Batavia Grange for a recent gathering. A strong program was presented by the visitors. At the next meeting officers will be elected and refreshments will be served.
