Sudden death ends veteran Silas English’s life in Bethel
Silas English, longtime Bethel resident and Civil War veteran, died of heart failure last Sunday at his home. He served in the 59th Ohio Company A until 1868 and later joined the county soldiers relief board, succeeding Alfred Floyd. A Democrat active in local politics, he leaves a widow and children and was buried Sunday under G A R auspices with many friends in attendance.
