A large crowd attended the Odd Fellows banquet last Saturday with feasting music and literary exercises. Guests praised the program and toasts while the hall and Hamilton House supper were noted for hospitality and cordial fraternal tone.
The notice advises sending gifts to men on duty with troops at Manila. Write the quartermaster general in Washington for instructions on address packing and to secure reduced transport rates.

Lockwood and Mr and Mrs James Hitch with their university sons, plus Miss Hattie Hitch, Miss Lillian Robinson, Miss Bessie Homan, Miss Harriett Moore, Mrs George Keen and her daughter Genevra and sister-in-law Lizzie Keen. They drove to Milford in private conveyances and returned Sunday night.
Miss Cecile Hulick, Elmwood schools teacher, fell Friday when her skirt snagged on a bicycle chain on a slope at Tate's toll-gate. Neighbors aided her, she lost consciousness briefly, then returned home in a carriage and resumed duties Monday, avoiding bike travel to school. The groom is the third son of Dr A W Ashburn recently discharged from the army and studying medicine in Cincinnati. The bride is E C Patchell’s daughter from Stone Lick, attending Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. They arrived in Batavia Monday morning and stay with Dr Ashburn’s family on Main Street while receiving well wishes.
In a Commercial-Tri bune interview Hon. Seth W. Brown, candidate for Congress, says he has spent days in the counties and is satisfied with the situation. He claims to have aided over 1700 pension claims and predicts a larger majority than ever as Republicans rally to his support.
A railroad promoter predicts the C G P will extend from West Union to Portsmouth within a year, tapping new territory. Talks with A G P officials suggest right of way checks and surveying will begin soon, with the C P V proposing a Georgetown branch, and a link to the Pennsylvania system.
Major Robert Campbell of Georgetown, born 1854 near Carlisle Brown County, becomes first commander of the American Army League formed in Columbus for Spanish American War soldiers. A lawyer and Civil War era officer, Campbell led Company G 13th O N G and later became major of the third regiment. He also served on the State board of examiners evaluating officer efficiency.
Mil ford resident Richard Marah, 65, was painting a house when the ladder slipped, throwing him about 20 feet. He struck his head on the pavement and remains unconscious with possible fatal brain concussion. Clausson Baum plans to sell property at Wood and Third and move to Empire City, with Mrs Baum noted as a respected music instructor and singer.
Mrs Cramer wife of the baker suffered a serious hand injury last Saturday while crossing a floor. Her foot tripped on a rug and she reached out to break the fall, the old chair spindle pierced the hand and caused a painful wound with danger of lockjaw.
Jacob Frey of Mulberry and Henry Boston of Cincinnati clashed last week in a quarrel that turned to knife violence. Boston, a colored man, inflicted serious wounds on Frey including a cut across the mouth and neck and another near the heart. No arrests have been made.

Charles Kugler, a prominent Goshen citizen, died at his home on Thursday from typhoid fever. He was the only son of David Kugler, unmarried, aged forty. His remains were laid to rest in Milford cemetery last Saturday.
