The Hoover and Cooper County ticket wins all major offices except probate judge Medary and Coyle. Forrest Ely leads the ticket for prosecutor by about 3000, with Kearns elected district official by 8000. Robert Roberts elected sheriff despite sharp attacks. Unofficial figures and majorities follow as we go to press.
Kansas City reports farmers in the Kaw Valley load surplus potatoes into hog troughs as a corn substitute. Boiled spuds are fed to pigs to fatten them as potato prices linger around 1 per bushel in Ohio. Seconds recently sold at 60 cents.
Sunday October 28 marked a pleasant farming anniversary at the Groves home on River road. Mr and Mrs Will Groves hosted neighbors and friends for a memorable community gathering celebrating their union.
A large gathering of family and friends honored Mr and Mrs Groves for their fortieth wedding anniversary in Batavia. Mrs George Full er and Mrs Levi Herran of Huntington Indiana attended. A noon dinner followed by an afternoon of social visiting concluded with guests wishing them many happy returns.
Mrs. Alice Padgett aged 58 died at her son John Haney’s home October 29 after a long illness. She was daughter of Delos and Hannah Carter of Batavia. Funeral from the Haney home Wednesday burial in Avanion cemetery. Family thanks Rev Troxell Miss Bess Walker and neighbors for help during illness.

E. church invites members to mid week prayer meeting at 7 30 p m and Sunday school at 9 30 a m with morning worship at 10 30 a m Epworth League meets at 6 45 p m Rev EK Burdsall will speak A union Armistice Day service is planned at the U B church at 7 30 p m Sunday November 11 Rev J R Troxel will deliver the sermon Red Cross roll call to be led by A Cecil of the Veterans Bureau The American Legion will participate in the service Special music by the Presbyterian quartet There is local real estate activity with Mrs Alma Seyler purchasing Rosco Tyler's cottage on Victoria avenue and Dr Wall purchasing another with plans for two more cottages.
The Batavia band backed a Wednesday night event that drew a crowded crowd to the courthouse corner and armory. Patrons watched masked participants parade to bridge and back with prize winners Kyle Moyer Homer Buerkle John Rapp Jr and Dick Jamieson selected. The gathering featured dancing music and a social atmosphere with free admission.
Locust Corner community crowded October 29 to honor Rev. F. H. Russell and Amelia M. E. church with gift baskets of eatables. the custom was reversed as guests brought food items. On November 3 Union Chapel church visitors numbered 36, delivering baskets to the M. E. Parsonage for Rev. F. H. Russell and family.
Claimed by confessing trio Conrad and Coutsie Harry and Bruce Anderson to a string of hold ups in Clermont on October 27. They were captured in Norwood, jailed in Batavia, charged with highway robbery, and bound over to the grand jury.
