Clermont County voters elected two new commissioners Jerry L. Carlier and Dale F. Romohr, defeating incumbents Harold Bissantz and Jerome Wiesenhahn by tight margins. Carlier won 52.2 percent and Romohr 52.9 percent. County offices also saw close results with Treasurer Albert E. Hines retaining the post by 66 votes and Recorder Kenneth A. Kahle Jr. unseating incumbent William Shebesta by 51.1 percent. Pattison won the prosecutor seat with 66.7 percent, while Sheriff John Van Camp was re-elected with 58.5 percent.
Seventy eight percent turnout in Clermont County across 146 precincts with 55,252 registered voters. Absentee voting accounted for 3 percent. McEwen leads district wide. 83,257 to Strickland 68,875 with 11 counties counted. Local court race results show Ralph Hill favored. Reagan Bush ticket dominates.
County commissioners authorize 8.5 million in economic development revenue bonds for National Amusements Inc to fund a Showcase Cinema at Eastgate Mall near SR 32 and I-275. The 2300 seat, eight auditorium theater aims to open after Thanksgiving, creating about 60 jobs with a 265000 dollar annual payroll.
McConah reports Flannery announced a Clermont County development plan at a ribbon cutting launching Free Enterprise Week. Horace Flannery and brother Harold align with Frank Messer and Sons Construction to develop 1000 acres near the Aston Ford Plant, with Messer as partner and J C Penney building noted. The plan includes 564 industrial, 100 commercial, and 330 residential acres and marks another major Clermont County commitment.
