A Democratic circular claims 10 782 pensions were suspended with 6972 restored, painting Republicans as saviors of soldiers while attacking Hoke Smith and Democrats. The piece argues foreign and domestic pension actions show partisan retaliation and urges Clermont soldiers to vote Republican next Tuesday.
President Ralph Peters of the Cincinnati Georgetown and Portsmouth Railroad is improving the line. A Russian Jew known as Old Benny, who arrived in Batavia with his family, is found to be in a fever after a drunken episode that injured him and endangered his wife and children. Neighbors freed a nearly unconscious child, Benny fought the cage bars, and three ribs and a temple bone were broken. He recovers at home while fellow countrymen act as sureties for his trial.
In Olive Branch, the two year old child of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Williams, buried seven years ago near Newport Kentucky, is reinterred after the casket revealed a perfectly preserved face. The stone-like remains, sculpted by elements, were placed back in Olive Branch cemetery amid renewed grief and wonder.
The country home of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. McNutt hosted a surprise party on Friday October 27 in honor of Mrs. McNutt’s sixty fourth birthday. About forty relatives and friends attended with well filled baskets and the day ended with devotional exercises led by Rev. Fulton and songs.
