Professor Alfred Kuhn of 574 Route 52 economics faculty is elected to the executive committee of the University of Cincinnati chapter of the American Association of University Professors.
Ohio sold more than $22.5 million in Series E and H Savings Bonds in April, lifting the four month total to $99.4 million. Clermont County reported April sales of $27,330.
The 1914 stern wheel steamer Avalon, once cost 200000, sold for 38975 at public auction in Cincinnati. Judge Melvin Cook purchased it for Jefferson County residents to move to Louisville as a river museum piece. The buyer also gains a rare calliope with superb whistle.
A hearing set for 10 a.m. Thursday May 31 on a temporary injunction to stop Nicholsville drag strip from operating follows a restraining order by Judge Harry Britton. Highland County Judge Darryl Hottle will preside. Mrs. Athol Mell of New Richmond and 14 nearby property owners filed the action against operators William Farmer and David Eads of Elmwood Place. Neighbors say the strip would disrupt the community’s peace and lower home values.Filed through West and West law firm Bethel.
The Greater Amelia Businessmen's Association will offer bargain rates on park admission and rides for Amelia Day at Coney Island on Wednesday June 13. Tickets are available from members who plan to award at least 12 prizes, including a bicycle, a transistor radio and a camera outfit.
Rep. William H. Harsha Jr announces two Clermont Countians named for service academies. Jansen of Felicity, Terry Adams, and William Bar of Georgetown nominated. Naval Academy accepts Stephen Alley of Goshen and William Wolfe of Portsmouth. Howard Roudebush of Mt. Carmel also accepted by academies and will enter this summer.
The Reddy Kilowatt towboat, 52 by 20 by 6 1/2 feet, powered by two Caterpillar diesels, was christened near New Richmond by Mrs. S. M. Hamill Jr. It will operate from Beckford Station to move coal barges to and from the coal unloader. CG&E plans a second unloading tower and harbor expansion at Beckford Station at a cost of 2 million dollars plus a new 250 thousand kilowatt unit boosting station capacity.
Public installation of Clermont Assembly 98, Order of Rainbow for Girls, was held May 29 at 8 p.m. in the Batavia high school auditorium. Marilyn DuChemin, daughter of Mrs. Anna May DuChemin, is worthy advisor. Line officers include Linda Chase as worthy associate advisor, Shirley Wilson as Charity, Cheryl Craig as Hope, and Bette Lou Neal as Faith.
State Auditor James A. Rhodes reports Ohio's new grand tax duplicate at 29 355 368 592 dollars. Clermont County shows 13 949 646 in personal property and 174 852 660 in real estate and public utilities. Seven large counties hold about 16 billion in taxable property, with Cuyahoga and Hamilton leading.
Joseph Steele Jr. announced at a Citizens for Gower meeting that he will reverse his earlier vote and support retaining Robert Gower as Goshen schools executive head. The board dismissed Gower by a 32 vote after a four day hearing, with a possible new vote planned if minority members push.
Ayer Gas Service becomes a division of Ohio Profane Company with Larry Whet ham as district manager. No personnel changes are planned and operations will continue under the Ayer Gas Service and Appliances name. Robert Ayer has not announced future plans. In Batavia, county commissioners sue to forfeit a 9350 performance bond posted in 1958 by Louis and George Pappas for the Pappas subdivision. The bond aimed to ensure roads and drainage met county standards, which officials say have not been met.
Anne Wiseman a junior from Amelia and Lois A Kish a freshman from Euclid receive 1962 E Kahn s Sons Company Awards in Home Economics at Miami University The $100 awards apply toward registration and are chosen by the home economics faculty Wiseman also earns the Emerson Award and serves as president of Associated Women Students Kish plans a career other than teaching and is the daughter of Mr and Mrs J Brad Kish
F. W. Kibler of Mt. Crab and his son David ran the Kibler Milling Co and Kibler Farm Store. He died Sunday at Brown County Hospital at age 85. Funeral services were held Tuesday with interment in Mt. Crab Cemetery. Survived by widow Pearl and sister Mrs. Nell Stephens.
Democratic county commissioner Charles Clark dropped a recount after netting only two added votes across 26 precincts. Clark, defeated by Allan Reynolds 30 votes in the primary, had sought recounts in Goshen township D and Milford C. precincts, adjusting totals to 1314 for Clark and 1342 for Reynolds.
Walter Raidt of the Clermont County Traffic Safety Council announced the annual Circle Of Safety motor inspections will begin in June. The Milford school site runs from 6 p.m. to dark on June 4 8 18 22. Miami township holds 2 to 4 pm on June 15 and 29 at the township hall Mulberry. Union township inspections run 9 a.m. to 4 p.m June 14 15 16 on Rt 125 near the shopping center with more dates to be announced by local police departments in Amelia Pierce township Felicity Nike Base Pingile Moscow New Richmond Williamsburg Bethel and Batavia.
Mrs Ida M Wilson of Williamsburg marks her centennial birthday on June 2 at 261 Fourth St. Friends may visit 2 to 5 pm. The noted poetess has published poems in The Courier and other papers and wrote The Beauties of Age to honor the occasion.
Clermont County Young Republican Club plans a May 31 gathering at 8 30 p m in First Milford Savings Assn community room. GOP chairman George C Sidwell will speak. locals may join. Arlene Anstead of Batavia is named Georgetown College Honors Convocation recipient for Beta Beta Beta Award in botany and zoology.
Victor Ambellas of Clermont Northeastern, a science and language teacher, learns snake milking from herpetologist Richard Dooley of Reptile Gardens. Ambellas and five volunteers aim to track a four to five plus foot timber rattler on Black Mountain Kentucky to collect specimens for Northeastern biology study.
The Clermont County League of Women Voters will hold its annual meeting on June 6 at The Frontier in New Richmond. The 10:30 a.m. gathering includes a noon luncheon for 2.00 dollars. reservations to Mrs Randall McFarlan. Guest speakers include Cincinnati League member Mrs Lillian Noertker and two Clermont County high school delegates Beverly Fisher and Carole Kempf who will present Student Government Day papers. Election of new officers and a proposed study item will be discussed. the event closes the league’s activities until September.
