The Clermont County Sunday School Convention under all churches will meet Friday June 1 at the Batavia Presbyterian Church. Morning session 10 A M, afternoon 1 30 P M, evening 7 30 P M. A noon basket luncheon and evening dinner provided by the women of the church.
Farmers of Clermont County and their families will be entertained at a special service school by the Rowan Sales and Service Co of Williamsburg next Wednesday June 6. Mr Rowan will present a program of sound pictures on Harvesting Equipment that will be entertaining and instructive for the entire family.
News comes that Sgt John E Haggerty 24 Route 1 Amelia Ohio has been liberated. An engineer and gunner aboard a B 24 he was captured by Germans on June 29 1944 and held as a prisoner until release by Allied forces.
Mayor A C Mundew Sr proclaims that in Batavia it is unlawful for dog, fowl, or other animals to run in the streets or to be kept when barking causes neighborhood disturbance. Violators face enforcement and punishment upon complaint.
An 1895 lookback notes humorous ironies of hard times. It jokes that people discard ashes but buy soap, raise dogs to buy hogs, waste urine, grow weeds to buy vegetables, fish with costly rods, and educate children while sending boys afield with cheap birds on limited budgets.
The Washington Union reports a Navy count from the Navy board: 10 ships of the line, 1 razee, 12 first class frigates with 2 second class, 17 first class sloops with 6 second class, 8 brigs, 8 schooners, 8 steamers, and 4 store ships in all 76 vessels.
A 1945 Boy Scouts Camporal is planned for Kahle Farm near Batavia on June 9 and 10 with registration due June 2. Dale Forney of Williamsburg chairs the event. activities include camp craft exhibits and a campfire program open to the public.
In county court two groups the Anti Tuberculosis League and the Clermont Christian Assembly seek court permission to sell and buy land for a new church camp. The league aims to sell and use proceeds. the assembly seeks to purchase and mortgage the 65 acre Black Run Creek tract. Judge Harry Britton is set to hear the league petition June 8 and the assembly petition June 22.
Hospital Care members enrolled through Batavia are asked to pay their quarterly fees at First National Bank promptly to keep their contracts in good standing.
Irwin Kain of Clermont County Post 3954 was elected Jr Vice Commander of the Fourth District at the Cincinnati Hotel Gibson conference. The event drew over forty Clermont County attendees with Thomas Feltz, Ohio Dept Commander, as keynote speaker urging veterans hospital support.

In Batavia the Banking District bond sale reached 106 585 dollars with 45 000 sold to corporations and 61 585 to individuals. The individual quota is 98 000 leaving 36 415 still to be sold. Mr Jamieson urged workers to contact everyone quickly to meet the target, noting the quota is nearly twice that of any prior drive.
Milford High School honored nine graduates at last Tuesday night’s commencement. Lily Ann Bernheisel earned a Student Activity Award and the Parent-Teacher Association $25 cash prize scholarship, joining her sister Wanda Lee who previously won the PTA award and a Wilmington College scholarship. Other honorees included Clyde Williams Melba Callahan for American Legion Awards, Robert Jones Ruth Carter for Athletic Awards, Hanford Thirey for Student Activity Award, and Richard Smith Betty Lou Bates for Citizenship Awards.

Blank fields, vague estimates, and missing figures slow processing and increase staff workload. Loss of coupons risks nonreplacement as sugar shortages persist. certificates come by mail and spare stamp No 13 must accompany each application.
Sheriff Tom Brooks reports three cow hides found Monday near Batavia on Route 10 in a rubbish heap bringing total seven hides found in a week. Hides were on a damp hill side near Route 74 toward Williamsburg. Previously four hides were found under a bridge over Twelve Mile Creek near New Richmond. OPA officials from Cincinnati investigated but could not identify owners or act.
The State Department of Conservation will begin repairs to Batavia Dam on Monday June 4 using eight high school boys from across the state for vacation work. They will be housed in Batavia during the project while Mayor A C Munden secures local accommodations. Repairs will extend the barrel section along the 89 foot wing wall and anchor it to the stream bed. The main dam holds up under flood pressure and will be improved to a superior structure.
Clermont Soil Conservation District held its May meeting at the Batavia office with officials including Elmer Norris and Albert Kistner. Members discussed ditch cleaning on a Batavia area farm and approved acquiring a 6 ft Corsicana terracer to aid drainage work, with a $1.25 daily rental.
Major Forrest E. Ely of Batavia Ohio recently returned from the South Pacific and now serves in the General Counsel's office of the Quartermaster General in Washington He was admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States on motion by Senator Taft and sworn in by Justice Stone Ely former Clermont County prosecuting attorney and Batavia lawyer plans to resume his practice at Batavia after the war Mrs Ely teaches at Batavia School and the couple's two children expect to join him in Washington for the summer
Wilma Lewis, Batavia High School graduate and pianist, wins a $100 scholarship to the College of Music at Cincinnati to study this fall. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Lewis of Batavia Ohio Route No. 2.
The War Food Administration unveils an aid plan to boost alfalfa red clover and alsike seed production. Farmers get 3.50 dollars per acre and 0.02 to 0.03 dollars per pound for seeds sold commercially by December 31 1945. The AAA allocates 12.5 million dollars to support legume seed production as European demand rises and soil depletion pressures grow.
Progressive drainage work advances on the Caldwell farm with preliminary surveys for a ditch through Glen Innis James Martin and Frances Wilson. Reconnaissance surveys target farms near New Townsville and New Richmond to gather data for drainage. Conservation plans cover five farms and six applications for farm plans are received.
