Amelia man bound to grand jury on assault with intent to kill

A Clermont County woman testified that her husband David L. McMillin held her at knifepoint and beat her during a breakup dispute. He was bound over to the grand jury on charges of assault with intent to kill and assault with a deadly weapon with bond set at $1000 on each charge.

Singing waiters help open St. Marys Festival in Bethel

Singing waiters from various groups will perform at the German Village booth during St. Marys Festival on June 8 and 9 in Bethel. Activities include country dinners noon to 7 pm, new games and rides for children, a country store, and major prizes of three trips for two to Florida New York and Nassau plus a fireworks finale.

Man Sentenced In Milford Robbery

Thomas Davis nineteen of 29 Cemetery Road Milford received 125 years in the penitentiary for the Milford robbery of Mary F. E. Kuhlman at Kuhlman’s Market on January 28. Judge M Dale Osborne ordered Lima State Hospital treatment before imprisonment. Davis already had three prior 15 year terms for breaking and entering and will serve all sentences concurrently.

Car Hits Youth. Injuries Reported in Withamsville Incident

A 14 year old, Doug las James, suffered facial and forehead injuries when struck by a car driven by Melvin Harness, 36, on Mt. Carmel Tabasco Road. The youth reportedly ran into the path of the vehicle. Harness was not cited.

Citizens Committee To Outline Program For Bellet Schools

The Le West Clermont Citizens Committee for Bellet Schools will meet Monday to outline a program for improving schools. A new bond issue is likely for November, with subcommittees to study transportation, curriculum, state funding, and legislative issues. Mothers and other citizens are invited to join June 3 and participate in discussions.

Milford J C Penney Store Wins District Award

Milford J C Penney store, led by Clarence Strand, was named district champion for the highest sales increase in 1962 within the district spanning Indiana Ohio Northern Kentucky and Southern Michigan. Ray Wilson presented the award, praising staff and patrons. Ohio April savings bonds sales topped 25 million, the best April in five years.

Children Injured In Monday Crash At Clough Pike

Three children were hurt when a station wagon driven by their mother collided with another car at Clough Pike and Shayler Rd. Johnny Du mont 9 Cheryl 4 and Saint Philippe seven months suffered chest arm wrist and eye injuries. They were taken to Children’s Hospital with Cheryl listed in satisfactory condition. The other driver Dennis Ellis 16 was cited for failure to yield.

Rabies Inoculation Ordered For Dogs In Clermont County

Clermont County health board orders rabies vaccination for all dogs following a Bethel area quarantine after two positive rabies cases. Penalty for noncompliance includes up to 100 dollars fine and 90 days in jail. The board also plans discounted cistern water tests and discusses school employee chest X rays.

Quick Action Saves Boy Buried In Slide

A 11 year old Boy Scout camping with Troop 575 along the Little Miami River was buried when an earth bank collapsed. Companions and Assistant Scoutmaster Milton Shafner dug him out within minutes. He was taken to Lady of Mercy Hospital with a fractured spine and multiple bruises, in good condition despite the injuries. Police and multiple agencies aided in the rescue.

Night Watchman Surprises Burglar at Goshen Market

GOSHEN The night watchman at the Land's Goshen Supermarket surprised a burglar early Friday morning. Lewis Harpe of Hills Station Road Goshen said the man crawled through a ventilating hole to enter. He fired one shot over the intruder's head and another as the man fled. Deputy George Gardner investigated.

First Survival Class Graduates at Batavia High School

The county's first Education for Survival class, a six week two hour weekly program led by Morley Figgins, graduated at Batavia High School. The 25 Batavia Life Squad members will operate a high school survival shelter in a national emergency.
