A long delayed move ends with the Denny Grimes shop now on Main Street near the bridge. A moving sign kept changing dates showing the owner’s persistence and the final note Oh Give Us Time reflects the move’s completion.
Quarter Master General Slocum and Adjutant General Curtis arrived in Cincinnati to choose a general rendezvous site for Ohio Volunteers and arrange related military movements. A camp ground was set about five miles below the city on the river bank.
On Saturday night Dr. John Bunn and his wife were surprised when their eldest son Adelbert brought Miss Purdie Sellers into the room announcing their marriage. The license had been issued that same night.
May 25 1921 report from the Boston Pair Ground details Batavia beating Milford 3 to 2 in a keenly contested baseball game. A large crowd witnessed spirited rooting from both sides as Batavia clinched the silver cup prized by all.
H A Rider, Ohio Department of Conservation commissioner, spoke to Clermont County Sportsmen at their Elk Lick Road headquarters. Fred Winter led the meeting with farmers, Tim Miller and Bert Carrell attended, and a film Realm of the Wild was shown. Rider discussed conservation's link to agriculture, focusing on soil erosion and farm land care.
A Batavia American Legion street carnival will run each evening Wednesday through Saturday in front of the Armory Batavia. Proceeds will go to the Legion Building fund. The event features twenty concessions.
Former Ensign Hugh L. Nichols has applied to the Veterans Administration to study under the GI Bill. He will attend the University of Miami for the summer session and return in the fall as a senior law student.
Lola Blanche Jacobs of Batavia is among 46 seniors who will graduate at 3 p m on June 7 as Wilmington College holds its 72nd commencement. Dr Clyde Milner president of Guilford College will address the graduates. Ruth Koeppe winner of the American Legion Award of Merit has accepted a secretary position with Hendrixson Insurance Agency.
Elizabeth Hammond aged 19 was convicted of burglary with a mercy recommendation from the jury. Sentencing could range from five to thirty years as Clerkmont County Common Pleas Judge Harry Britton reviews the case. Her husband Raymond Hammond, 47, has been sentenced and sent to the State Penitentiary on a related count.
A midnight crash at routes 132 and 50 in Owensville injured three people. Harold Cheetman of Williamsburg drove a 1935 Chevrolet into a 1937 Ford owned by Lou Becker of Fayetteville. Clarence Camberger of Williamsburg owned the Chevrolet. Bertha Darby, also of Williamsburg, suffered an arm injury but was not treated at the scene. Dr. Allen Rapp treated Becker and Camberger. Both vehicles were seriously damaged and nearby antiques shop Old Boston House Antique Shop suffered some damage.
The Mt. Carmel unit of the Montgomery County Rangers will meet Monday evening June 10 at the Mt. Carmel Glen Este school building. President James Winnes leads the meeting with Major Huston of Cincinnati as speaker. He will recount his World War I Marine experiences.
The American Legion Auxiliary will hold its meeting on Monday June 3 at 8 00 p m at the Armory. A brief administrative session followed by committee reports is planned. Members are requested to attend.
The Rev. I E Jenkins president and Rev J N Rice secretary lead Clermont County ministers in forming an association. Plans include a countywide vacation Bible School, training for Sunday School teachers, religious instruction in all schools, and regular county home services with area pastors assisting.
The Fourth District of the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs met Friday in Batavia High School Auditorium. Clermont Regional Director Mrs. D. L. Phillips presided with state president Mrs. Frank Gary assisting in flower arrangements. Miss Anna Bunte spoke on specimen flowers and Sosoon Koone of Cincinnati discussed cultivation. Next district meeting scheduled for later date.
Miss Beatrice Kempf a Batavia High School graduate has accepted a secretarial position with Hendrixson Insurance. The engagement marks her first professional role following graduation and places her within the local insurance office team.
Clermont County Republican women will form township clubs led by Nellie Mattox of Amelia wife of Mayor Arthur Mattox. The reorganizational meeting of the Republican Central Committee was held at the Batavia Courthouse with Joe Brock Amelia as vice chairman and George Mull Amelia as secretary. Democrats also reorganized under C. L. Jones Marathon chairman Edten Myers Williamsburg vice chairman and Alfred Rapp Batavia secretary with R. J. Holden Milford treasurer. a June 2 meeting and county headquarters selection are planned.
G D Mattingly reopened the Hotel George in New Richmond after a complete remodeling and also started a Hotel Sweet Shop operating alongside the hotel. Mattingly has prior experience with leading hotels nationwide.
Mrs Eugene Philhower of Mt Washington Route 8 entertained Milford Chapter 234 Order of Eastern Star officers at her home Monday evening. The event was a stork shower for Mrs Evelyn Slagle with numerous gifts and refreshments including strawberry shortcake.
The Ladies Aid of the United States Church will meet Monday evening June 3 at 8 00 o clock at the residence of Mrs Edgar Mosbacker.
Clermont Courier will be closed all day Memorial Day for a one day employee vacation. This week’s issue published a day early to reach subscribers before the holiday. next week’s paper will appear at the regular time.
Four young men of Amelia applied to join the Regular Army through the Batavia Ohio recruiting office at the Post Office. Sgt Oaks Adams now permanently serves Batavia station and will continue to accept Army applicants weekdays at the Batavia Post Office. Rice's Plan Trip mentions Mr and Mrs O Rice visiting Baltimore sister Mrs Hatcher in Maryland. Bill Rice will visit Allen Chandler in Milford Ohio. The Rice Cafe will close for one week starting Wednesday evening May.
Memorial services will be held at the Mt. Pisgah Church at 2 30 p m June 2. The public is invited to attend.
Mrs Daugherty hosted a dinner gathering last Wednesday with local guests in attendance. The event featured light conversations and refreshments as attendees shared updates on community happenings and upcoming events.
