June 5 is set as registration day for men ages 21 to 31 for the first army draft. Citizens are urged to inform neighbors and ensure all register, with penalties for noncompliance. Clermont County must provide about 160 registrants and cards will be drawn from a jury wheel to determine eligibility before medical exams.
Union Evangelistic services begin Sunday June 8 at 2 PM in a large tent on the New Richmond school grounds. Rev W W Shannon and Chas H Wieand direct with a 75 voice choir. The revival aims to be Clermont county’s greatest, prior to Lincoln Chautauqua set August 29 on the same grounds.
Announcements from Batavia and nearby report the marriage of former citizen W C Robinson of Perttttown to Miss Ivy L Hutson of Amelia. The couple wed Sunday May twentieth nineteen seventeen in Milford Ohio and are wished happiness by many friends.
John G. Miller died at his home in Owensville Monday evening at six. A Civil War veteran and Batavia Post member, he had been failing in health for months. Funeral from his home Thursday at 10, burial in Greenlawn cemetery Milford. He leaves a widow and two daughters.
The order notes the death of Hattie Ed, lauding her as an earnest, kind-hearted community member and devoted mother. Sympathies are sent to the family, with a copy of the resolution to be filed in minutes and sent to the Clermont Courier. Names Clara Smith Zelphia Christio Florence Caldwell appear in the notice.
On Monday the Clermont County Draft Board met in Marathon and organized with Dr. J. L. Fomorin as executive officer Dr. T. W. Needham as recorder and Charles J. Williams as sergeant. The organization report was sent to the Governor and future meetings will be held at Batavia after registration day June 5.
The Presbyterian church Ladies Aid Society held a dinner in the chapel last Wednesday to bid farewell to Rev Simpson and his wife before their Tuesday move to Eaton. He has served about three years, earning respect for his hard work and good deeds. They leave many warm friends, the parish grows larger, and the new church offers higher pay. Best wishes accompany them.
Memorial services were held in the M E church last Sunday to honor living and dead soldiers. The church was decorated with flags bunting and flowers. Rev Simpson delivered a forceful eloquent sermon and the choir sang well with an operatic influence noted in the program.
The Batavia Red Cross chapter with over two hundred members urges all to attend Thursday at 1 30 in the Assembly Room of the school building to aid hospital supplies. France reports newspapers used as battlefield dressings, signaling urgent need for surgical dressings and active participation before Red Cross weekend starting June 25 1917.
The Felicity Grange will hold a patriotic mass meeting May 31 at 1 30 pm in Felicity School Park with music and speakers including L J Taber Ohio State Master from the National Defense Columbus. The event invites all to attend and show patriotism during a time of crisis.
Last Thursday noon a stubborn blaze destroyed the Myrick tenant house occupied by Charles Slade and family next to Teal livery barn. The fire, first found by a neighbor, filled the home with smoke and ruined nearly all possessions with no insurance for the Slade family. Miss Myrick carried $500 insurance on the property as firefighters struggled to save adjacent buildings.

He leaves a widow several children and several brothers. The army recruiting station has been notified that soldiers pay rates will rise to 80 dollars per month corporal 86 dollars sergeant 88 to 44 dollars per month.
Last Sunday week Millard Denni son and family and Samuel School ey and wife were descending Boston Hill when the steering gear broke. The auto plunged 25 feet over an embankment, turning over twice, injuring all occupants except a three year old girl. They were taken to Milford for medical aid.
Bank cashiers from Clermont county gathered at Batavia on Monday to plan a county wide push for Liberty Loan Bonds. W E Napp of Milford bank led as temporary chairman and each cashier became a one person committee to place bonds with the public. The note urged banks to increase sales as bonds progress too slowly.
The Cler mont County Sunday school association meets June 8 and 9 at Mulberry with speakers and a new Boys and Girls Congress for ages 15 to 20. Delegates from all schools are invited to attend without limiting other local delegations. Also notes George M. Roudebush passed the Columbus bar exam and now trains at Fort Benjamin Harrison.
Wesley Charles of Manchester was jailed six months and fined $25 for contempt after he failed to obey a court order in a divorce case. Judge E. B. Corn of West Union ordered him held for abuse when he again defied the ruling.
Walter Smith of Williamsburg, a railway mail messenger, was injured when his train derailed near Ak Ron last Thursday. His arm was badly wrenched and he suffered other bruises. with many years on the road this is his worst wreck.
Tobacco growers face a severe shortage of plants after early sowing, hard freezes, and a dry spell killed most stock. Some farmers may share remaining plants, but overall acreage likely will fall short. Corn can be rotated to tobacco ground with time still available.
County commissioners Shane Patchell and Anteatt along with Prosecutor White Deputy Auditor Reed and W F Roudebush visited Columbus to review an old agreement on a three mile State pike from Batavia to Olive Branch. They found the county might have been asked to pay more than 60 percent of costs, despite prior claims. The old signatories deny agreeing to over half the cost. About 8000 dollars is due to Contract or Tanner and some state share remains due. Officials expect a fair adjustment to resolve the matter.

Abutting property holders along the Cincinnati pike from the State pike end to the Hamilton county line press for finishing the five mile connection to Georgetown. A committee met county commissioners and the plan will be favorably considered with road repairs or resurfacing as needed. The Maple pike failed to sell last week with no bids.
The H. Hubbel estate near the Little Miami river, a six acre Loveland property with one room, was purchased by the Cincinnati Automobile Club for 5800 dollars. Five hundred eighty will be spent on remodeling the site into a club house popular with scholars of the Batavian area.
