Batavia Village Council Sets Underpass Project Details

In a special session the Batavia Village Council approved procedures for the Underpass project. Contractor's Finance Corp of Cincinnati holds the contract. William Jenike will oversee excavation for the State Highway Department. Water lines will be temporarily rerouted at a cost of about 2000 dollars, with labor recoverable from the State. Excavation work by State crews was set to begin staking out ground Tuesday, weather permitting.

Masons of 6th District to Celebrate Grand Master’s Visit

The 6th District Masons of Ohio plan a June 1 reception at Williamsburg marking Clermont Social Lodge No. 29’s 125th anniversary. A 6 pm lodge meeting precedes a parade by the Oola Kahn Grotto Band to the school for a banquet and address by Most Worshipful Brother Dillon Christ.

Batavia H S held its fifty ninth annual commencement in the high school auditorium on Friday evening May 24. The program featured a grand march processional, invocations, a welcome address, musical selections by the girls glee club and trio, and the presentation of honors diplomas and diplomas to the Class of 1940.

Bethel Plans Talent Night

Bethel sets a country store amateur night under Henry W White, Bethel School instrumental instructor, to raise funds for outdoor summer concerts. The Bethel School Auditorium hosts Friday May 31 at 8 pm with a writing contest and popular prizes donated by Bethel merchants. Admission 25 or 15 cents.

Amelia Garden Club Hosts Evening Program and Exhibits

Amelia Garden Club held an engaging meeting at White Acres on Saturday night May 26 with 75 members and guests and more than 100 exhibits. Musical numbers by Mrs. Trotter and Mrs. Rush accompanied a featured talk by Karl Maslowski of Cincinnati. Refreshments followed as attendees enjoyed the event.

Williamsburg troop 416 renews its charter and meets Fridays at 7 30 pm in the Legion Hall. The group has grown from 16 to 23 and has directed traffic at fires and other heavy conditions.

Batavia Alumni Reunion Banquet Honors Roudebush

The Batavia Alumni Association held its annual reunion and banquet in the school auditorium with Judge Allen C. Roudebush as principal speaker. Eighty eight attendees were served by the Parent Teachers Association. Music directed by James Skelton and Myrtle Wilson accompanied the event. Lowell Ruat received the $100 Alumni Scholarship. New officers were elected for the coming year: President Russell Speidel, Vice President Edmond Parrott, Treasurer Auria Glancy, Secretary Mrs. Ridhasa Didday.

Clermont County Announces 1941 Wheat Allotment

Clermont County wheat allotment for 1941 set at 7 073 acres announced by Edward C. Saxton chairing the county AAA committee. Allocation based on tillable acres soil type topography and last three years wheat planted. Farmers credited for prior diverted wheat and may qualify for payments loans and crop insurance in 1941. Individual allotments to reach farmers in coming weeks.

Clermont County Chamber Meets on Taxation and Public Spending

Clermont County District Council of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce met at the Court House on May 24. About 30 residents from across Clermont attended as concerns about higher taxes, rising public expenditures, and adverse economic effects were voiced. Arthur Behymer, named District Manager, was ill and did not attend. District Councils aim to monitor taxation and public spending to push for economy in local government.

Mr and Mrs Ralph W Thompson of Warren Ohio announce the marriage of Ruth Marie Thompson to John Robert Hayden. The ceremony occurred Saturday at the First Methodist Episcopal Church in Warren at 430 PM. Hayden, a Miller School of Business Cincinnati alumnus, is Assistant Cashier in the Don Ebright Office in Columbus. Ruth Marie Thompson, Warren High School graduate, works in the Division of Conservation in Columbus. The couple rented an apartment in Columbus to start housekeeping.

Owensville Painter Charles Reynolds Dies In Scaffold Fall

The Owensville community mourns painter Charles Reynolds aged 51 after a scaffold collapse at Rogers Park Place Cincinnati. Reynolds died from internal injuries and fractures before reaching General Hospital. Richard Fricke 30 suffered a pelvis fracture. Funeral services for Reynolds were held Sunday.

Population of Stonelick Township Grows

The population of Stonelick Township outside Owensville Village in Clermont County Ohio rises to 1210 in the preliminary 1940 census counts from 1008 in 1930. The 1940 figures are preliminary and subject to correction. Wray Bevens, Supervisor of Census.

Supt Hoggatt Releases State Contests Ratings

The Clermont County Scholarship Team ranked among the state’s top five in county classifications at the Miami University meet on May 4. Individuals across subjects earned top placings including Carl Lampe, Ruth Lampe, and Thomas Richards with several Honorable Mention awards. An eighth grade recognition and senior general scholarship honors were noted, alongside a separate court incident where judge Ward Bush granted a 10 day sentence for intoxication.

Washington trip by Amelia High pupils ends with tires and breakdowns

To Washington DC W J Tabscott Miss Marie Hawke and Joseph Justin took machines load ed with Amelia High School pupils for an end of school vacation trip last week. The three machine loads left Thursday morning and reports say the trip was remarkable largely due to flat tires and broken down transmissions. The party was expected back in Cleremont County Monday night or Tuesday.
