Oldest WWI veterans in Batavia parade to participate

Fran Schwiermann reports Batavia’s two oldest living WWI veterans Leo Guy Craver 87 and Clyde Tom 86 plan to ride in the Memorial Day parade. Craver, a Batavia resident since long ago, served in aviation and worked as a machinist. Tom, who served in France and Germany, later worked in U S foreign aid. Both are long-time American Legion members, with Craver on the courthouse plaque.

Memorial Day Parades Across Batavia Goshen and East Fork

Memorial Day events unfold in Batavia Goshen and East Fork with parades beginning at 10 30 a m in Batavia and 9 30 a m in Goshen before services at nearby cemeteries. Batavia parade will end at Batavia Cemetery with no sirens or candy throws. Goshen hosts post parade activities including live music square dance and cake contests. East Fork Church services begin at 10 a m and merge with 11 a m Legion observances.

Bethel mayor cuts village salaries to save funds

New Bethel Mayor P D Brittain sworn in at a special meeting replacing David Smith, proposing savings to offset a 32 percent federal revenue cut.
