Pierce Township to Open Sanitary Landfill July First
Locust Corner Clermont County Pierce township trustees plan to open the Pierce Township Sanitary Landfill on July first with a five year lease to Howard Watson for land on Merwin Tem Mile Road to serve Pierce and nearby areas. The dump will operate Fridays 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with free-use cards for residents and supervision by the health board and State Department of Health. The project follows a May 20 trustees meeting approval and roadway work to begin immediately. Korea War Veteran Killed in Auto Crash
Harold C. Smith 22, veteran of Korea, died when his car hit a utility pole near Williamsville Ohio after excessive speed. State Patrol, Sheriff C B Dericks and Coroner F P Skeen investigated. burial at Mt Moriah Cemetery followed a requiem mass at St. Thomas More Church. He was survived by his parents two brothers and four sisters.

Engineer cites wells near CG&E plant for Batavia water system
Alfred LeFeber, Cincinnati consulting engineer, told commissioners wells near the CG&E power plant at New Richmond are the best source for the Batavia Pierce Union township water project. He said using them would not raise costs and could fit a future county-wide system. The project would cost a little over $2,000,000. Le Feber said.
