Legion and VFW Posts Unite for Decoration Day

Frank W. Weaver Post American Legion and Clermont County VFW Post 3954 Batavia join forces to decorate veterans graves for Memorial Day. Auxiliaries join the observance. They assemble at 9 am May 31 at the region home on State Route 74 before visiting cemeteries. A noon gathering and Batavia Cemetery ceremony follow.

Pierce Township to Open Sanitary Landfill July First

Locust Corner Clermont County Pierce township trustees plan to open the Pierce Township Sanitary Landfill on July first with a five year lease to Howard Watson for land on Merwin Tem Mile Road to serve Pierce and nearby areas. The dump will operate Fridays 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with free-use cards for residents and supervision by the health board and State Department of Health. The project follows a May 20 trustees meeting approval and roadway work to begin immediately. The article also notes Clermont County and possibly state firsts with red stop signs installed by the State Highway Department last winter.

Colonel Wheeler to Speak at Felicity Memorial Rites

Memorial Day services will be held May 30 at South Park Felicity with Col. Elden L. Wheeler Army Reserve as speaker. The Felicity-Franklin school band leads a 2 p.m. parade from the school to South Park, plus ceremonies at Felicity Cemetery and Chile Cemetery for local veterans and a named private. Parade marshal Charles Lea and VFW commander William Wells assist. veterans meet by 1:30 p.m. at the local VFW post.

Memorial Day observance in Goshen with parade and services

Goshen community holds Memorial Day events at the Methodist Church May 30 at 10:00 am with a 11:00 am parade to the hilltop cemetery. Ray Bradford, Clermont County prosecutor, will speak. A Civilian Defense truck with PA system will serve the cemetery service, rain plan moves attendees by car.

Korea War Veteran Killed in Auto Crash

Harold C. Smith 22, veteran of Korea, died when his car hit a utility pole near Williamsville Ohio after excessive speed. State Patrol, Sheriff C B Dericks and Coroner F P Skeen investigated. burial at Mt Moriah Cemetery followed a requiem mass at St. Thomas More Church. He was survived by his parents two brothers and four sisters.

Engineer cites wells near CG&E plant for Batavia water system

Alfred LeFeber, Cincinnati consulting engineer, told commissioners wells near the CG&E power plant at New Richmond are the best source for the Batavia Pierce Union township water project. He said using them would not raise costs and could fit a future county-wide system. The project would cost a little over $2,000,000. Le Feber said.

Loveland honors Memorial Day with American Legion and VFW units directing the events. A 10:45 a.m. ceremony at B. & O. Park will feature Dr. John F. Gest as speaker and Rev. William A. Sewage Plant Bonds Sold To Fund Batavia Disposal System

Batavia Council approved issuing 185000 dollars in revenue bonds to finance a village sewage disposal plant. Magnus and Company and Widman and Company of Cincinnati bought the bonds at 950.80 per 1000. interest 3.5% and 3.25%. Construction bids due in 30 days.

Veterans Get Free Admission For Memorial Day Film

Town Hall Theatre Batavia offers free admission to veterans for The Best Years of Our Lives on Sunday and Monday. Each veteran must be accompanied by one paying companion. The film portrays veterans readjusting to civilian life and features Harold Russell, an Academy Award winner who lost both arms in World War II.
