Cleve Gillman Slain In The James Sarver Home

Cleve Gillman a 48 year old handyman was slain Friday night in the James Sarver home. Mrs Cynthia Sarver 35 is jailed in Clermont county on a first degree murder charge after firing a shot believed to kill Gillman. An inquest found Gillman died minutes after the shot from a center chest wound and a note suggested a motive tied to keeping silent about a meeting. James Sarver maintains his wife’s innocence.

Drive For USO Funds Underway In Clermont County

Clermont County launches a county wide campaign to raise 6500 dollars for USO relief. Township goals include Tate 900 Ohio 900 Miami 1000 Union 800 Williamsburg 800 Pierce 300 Stonelick 250 Jackson 100 Goshen 200 Wayne 150 Washington 200 Franklin 400 Monroe 100 Batavia 900. County Auxiliary Highway Patrolmen Are Graduated Now

After 17 weeks of training 31 men in Clermont County received identification cards stickers and armbands becoming full auxiliary patrolmen. In emergencies citizens should contact the nearest auxiliary patrolman and report accidents fires or similar incidents. Names addresses and phone numbers of the contact list are provided for local response.

Dr. P. M. Offutt Dies Suddenly at Home

Dr. P. M. Offutt, retired Cincinnati dentist and longtime Clermont County resident, died at his home Monday night. He served as president of the Clermont Court board and was widely known in southern Ohio. He leaves his widow, Mrs. Katherine Offutt.

Batavia grocery stores will stay open Friday night this week but will close all day Saturday for Memorial Day observance.

Ration Board No 13 1 Announces Regular Contact Hours

The board lists its hours for inquiries at Stonelick and Union Twos locations. Contact times are 9 to 12 a m and 1 to 4 p m on Monday Wednesday and Friday. Night appointments are not offered.

Speedliners to Meet Milford at Batavia Ground Sunday

The Batavia A. A. Knothole team, Speedliners, will host Milford next Sunday at 2:30 on the Batavia school ground. Both clubs compete in the Eastern Division in Cincinnati. A Cincinnati umpire will officiate and a good crowd is expected as this could be Batavia’s only contest here for some time.

Salvage For Victory Drive Launched By Clermont County

Clermont County forms a Salvage for Victory committee to mobilize scrap metal and rubber from farms. WPA will supply men and trucks with 45 cents per hundredweight for metal and 50 cents for rubber plus treasury checks for owners. The program, endorsed by Civilian Defense, War Production Board, and local agencies, aims to centralize loads and speed loading.

The Bethel high school alumni plan their annual reunion in the school auditorium Friday evening May 29. The 8:15 business meeting precedes the Senior class of 1942 presentation. Judge John W. Haussermann will speak, followed by a public dance with Chic Manthe's Orchestra from WKRC after 10:30.
