County Inventor Writer Comes Home to Roam His Old Haunts

Arthur G. Stevenson 79 of Santa Barbara California revisited Clermont County after 55 years to explore the old grist mill birthplace near Perintown and Baldwin. He shared memories of the mill once the tallest in the county and earlier used as a liquor distillery. He described his camera projects and his lifelong zest for invention, writing and adventure.

Deputy Samuel Rouvier Dies After Crash on Rt 132

Deputy Samuel E Rouvier 30 died from head injuries after a crash near Lin dale while en route to interview witnesses for the grand jury. He had served 23 days in hospital after the April 28 accident involving horses and a head on collision with a New Richmond driver. Funeral services were held at Moore Funeral Home Batavia and Mt Moriah Cemetery Williamsville. He is survived by his wife Sherry Ann a son and a daughter.

Trustees Clerks Back East Fork Reservoir Plan

The Clermont County Township Trustees and Clerks Association with 56 members from 14 townships and 30 honorary members endorsed the East Fork Reservoir. President Harold Bissantz stated the group will notify Ohio Senators and the district congressman to press for Congressional funds approval.

Batavia Accepts Federal Grant for Water System Upgrade

Batavia Council accepted a federal grant of 245 500 dollars on Monday covering about half the cost to upgrade the village water distribution system and treatment plant. The village will issue revenue bonds for its share, with contracts likely to be let in August and completion expected within a year of that. Maurice Miller was reappointed to the Batavia Cemetery Board and named chairman. Dale Miller took Ralph Clyburn's seat on the council. Louis Moore filled the Batavia Township Trustee role succeeding Clarence Lytle.

Post Offices Close for Memorial Day Holiday

All local post offices will be closed on Monday May 30 in observance of Memorial Day. No mail delivery. mail collections will follow posted holiday schedules.

Study Group Urged on Land Near Dam Reservoir Project

Clermont County officials hear support for the East Fork Reservoir and a proposed 15,000 acre state park. A study committee would assess planning tax impacts and school district finances while coordinating local planning before digging starts.

Boy Dies In Accidental Gun Discharge In Goshen

Sheriff reports a .22 revolver discharged while teacher Samuel Steele 21 and boy examined it at 1834 Old Ohio 28 Goshen. The heart wound proved fatal. Funeral rites held at Craver Funeral Home Milford with burial at Graceland Memorial Gardens. The boy, son of Robert and Blanche Bowman, left four sisters and a brother.

Billingsley First To Pass Course

Leonard Billingsley of Pierce Township becomes Clermont County’s first officer to complete the required 120 hour police training under the 1965 Ohio law. He finished after three weeks at Norwood Police Academy with a notebook, pistol range, and final exam assessing interview, reports, traffic control, accident investigation, first aid, criminal law, and court appearance lessons from recognized experts.

Bulldogs Rack Up 27 Points at Regional Meet

The Batavia Bulldogs scored 27 points at the Dayton regional track event, edging Springboro which had 18. Don Ogletree leapt 21-6 in the broad jump and ran the 440 in 50.7 seconds. The relay team of Ogletree Lahmann Joe Smith posted 3:28.4 for a regional mark, while Dave Smith ran 10.2 in the 100. Joe Ogletree cleared 6-1 in the high jump and Bart Holman was 3rd in the two mile in 10:21.7. The squad heads to Columbus for state, with Ogletree and Lahmann closing out their high school careers.

Clermont County Health Budget Cut Reveals Financial Revisions

The Clermont County Budget Commission reduced the 1967 Board of Health budget from 92700 to 85665 and set township and village assessments totaling varied amounts. Officials cut employee salaries from 46532 to 42532 and eyed restaurant funds of about 6000 for salaries while trimming operating expenses and benefits obligations.

Fuel Tank Drops From Plane Near Willowville Home

An empty 60 to 100 gallon fuel tank fell from a plane at noon Saturday and narrowly missed the home of Mr and Mrs Raymond Gentry at 1243 Traction Street Willowville. It passed within three feet of the house and five feet of where the Gentry children played. Mrs Gentry kept the children away until the sheriff arrived and authorities at Wright Patterson Air Force Base were notified. Also announced was a $39 616 Headstart grant for 195 pre school children in Clermont County to be run by the county board of education with 20 volunteers 13 professionals and 15 adults.
