State test results from Roy C. Thompson’s office list Clermont students earning district and state honors across subjects. Meeting On Polio Set For Thursday

State representatives of the National Foundation will meet in Batavia Thursday at 2 p.m. to discuss the local polio program. Joseph Andrews of Columbus accepted Rep. Charles W. Jacksons invitation to join the conference at the county courthouse. Andrews will review Clermont County polio fundraising and patient spending, among other fund administration topics. The event is open to the public.

County asks state to resurface Rt 74 segment

County commissioners wrote to Joseph Unger Division Eight engineer State Highway Department Middletown asking the state to resurface the Rt 74 section replaced by the new four lane highway from Willowville to Batavia. They note state vehicles hauling to the new road damaged the surface and the wear burdens many residents on the road.

Clermont County Census Count Reaches 79863

The 79,863 population of Clermont County falls short of the 80,000 threshold needed for salary increases of at least $2,000 for most elected officials. Census officials expect no major revision after credits and checks, with unofficial numbers to be microfilmed and fed to Univac for final publication in 1961.

Miss Clermont Contestant Seeks Cincinnati Title

Miss Pat Skeen daughter of Dr and Mrs Frederick Skeen of Batavia has been nominated by Kappa Delta Sorority at UC as representative in the Miss Cincinnati Contest sponsored by the Cincinnati Junior Chamber of Commerce and Pepsi Cola. If she wins June 10 she advances to Miss Ohio and potential Miss America at Atlantic City. Kay Ross of Tabasco won Miss Cincinnati last year.

Three Clermont Students Earn State Honors in Test

Milford and Amelia high schools in Clermont County each place students among Ohio’s top. Thomas Kemp and William Kietzman of Milford and Beverly Nutter of Amelia ranked ninth, ninth, and sixth respectively in biology American history and Spanish 1 as 240 top state honorees from 831 high schools across the state.

Car Safety Check Slated At Batavia

Walter Raidt, chairman of the Clermont County Traffic Safety Council, announced a voluntary car safety check program will begin at Batavia on June 10 from 4 to 6 p.m. Tests will continue on June 11 24 25 with dates for other county locations to follow.

Access roads project clears hurdle at Clermont County pool

Friday, Clermont County commissioners approved a 15 000 contribution to cover engineering costs for rebuilding two access roads Neville Penn School House and Fruit Ridge near the Nike missile base. The 168 000 project had stalled after learning federal funds would be insufficient. The State Highway Department had asked for 46 000 from the county, but officials declined.

Federation Spring Meet Set at Bethel Church

The Clermont County Federation of Garden Clubs will hold its spring meeting in the education building of the Bethel Methodist Church on Thursday May 26. Registration starts at 10 a.m. Mrs Lloyd Harlow club president announced guest speaker will be Mrs Ciara Frederick president of the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs.

Special Offering Sought For College Mission Work

HAMLET The Seventh day Adventist Church will take a special offering at services this week for the College of Medical Evangelists in southern California. The college prepares young people for medical mission service at home and abroad. Last year U S and Canada members gave over $3 per person toward the college’s support.

Elaine Schroer Wins Two Miami University Awards

Miss Elaine C Schroer of Rt 1 here received two awards at the Miami University annual Awards Convocation last Thursday. She earned The Class of 1911 Wallace P Roudebush Scholarship and one of eight Joseph A Culler freshman prizes in chemistry.

Several county departments plan a coordinated program to streamline enforcement of building regulations. Progress reports will show each agency actions on a subdivision plat. Body Of Woman Found In River In Cincinnati East End

Mrs. Leslie Gates 70, who had threatened to jump in the river, was found Sunday among driftwood in Cincinnati East End by a plant employee. She wears a high school class ring belonging to her late son and dress aid in identification. Services set for 2 pm at Lew P White Memorial, New Richmond with burial at Vesper Cemetery. Survived by husband Fred and daughter Mrs. Margaret Carnes. She had been ill and despondent and disappeared from home last Thursday. Police and volunteers investigated as her dent ures and glasses remained in her bedroom. Her brother-in-law Allan Gates identified her.

A public hearing on the proposed zoning resolution for the unincorporated area of Miami township will be held June 21 at 7 30 p m at the elementary school here.

Scholarship Winner Hopes To Become A Physician

Ralph J. Alexander of Batavia high school Class of 1960 won the Clermont County Association of Insurance Agents second annual $500 scholarship. He will study pre medicine at Ohio State University beginning next fall. Alexander praised the 19 other candidates and has been encouraged by his family physician Dr. Carl Minning. He graduated fifth in his class of 53 and ranked highly on the county senior scholarship test.
