Woodward Acreage Sold Prompts Major Batavia Expansion

The 56 acre Woodward tract in Batavia was sold this week to developers, aiming to create commercial and industrial sites. Wilson Bros Realtors said the buyers’ identity is undisclosed and the price was not stated. the deal may rank as a county large real estate transfer. Annexation plans include western Batavia growth near Rt 74 and the N and W Railway, with Kroger set to open nearby this summer. Clermont County Board Denies Thompson Salary Increase

The Clermont County board of education refused to raise superintendent Roy C. Thompson from $8600 after accepting the salary committee report. The panel boosted L. G. House to $9500 as general supervisor, with others to be hired under the State Foundation Program.

Eight Roads Due For Rapid Repair In County

County officials chaired by Commissioners Charles Clark and Zenas Anstadt along with County Engineer Carl Rush identified eight roads for emergency repairs after an inspection. Three crews will work, targeting holes and washouts with deadlines before Memorial Day.

Funds Earmarked For Safety Drive In Clermont County

The county commissioners allocate funds for a June traffic safety campaign across 12 villages and other areas seeking inclusion. Clermont County Traffic Safety Council chair Walter Raidt with Ed Colonel Fred Holt and Charles Jackson urged aid at the Friday meeting. Village police will cooperate with mayoral proclamations, and 20 deputy sheriffs will run a future auto check methods school. A recount request was filed with the Board of Elections by Joseph L Remley for the Republican nomination for county treasurer after the May 3 primary. Official results showed Collard Deel leading Remley by nine votes, triggering a Monday start for the recount.

Goshen Captures District Class A Baseball Title

Goshen high school won the District Class A baseball title Monday at Lunken Airport playfield by defeating Seven Mile 5 to 0. Earl Lindholz pitched a no hit ball with eight strikeouts as Goshen notched its 11th win of the season. The 1958 state champions advance to the regional at Dayton to meet the Piqua district winner.

The Jackie Clayburn Fund started by Mrs. Aledia Brown with Courier aid totals 291.15 dollars this week. After wheel chair and fittings are paid, remaining funds aid Jackie Clayburn’s further needs such as shoes and braces. Donations reside at Amelia State Bank with callers hoping to keep the effort alive for the seven year old polio victim. County Planners Attend National and International Conferences

The Clermont County Planning Commission executive committee will attend the National Planning Conference in Miami May 22 26 and the International Planning Conference in San Juan Puerto Rico May 28 June 3. New Post Office and Village Building To Be Dedicated

Batavia residents and Clermont County patrons are invited to a joint dedication of the new Batavia post office and municipal building at 3 p.m. Sunday May 22. Famed Journalist To Speak At His Childhood School

Goshen high school hosts its 67th annual commencement May 29 with Washington journalist Forrest Davis as speaker. Davis, a former Goshen student, has roles at Cincinnati Enquirer Detroit Free Press New York Herald Tribune The Freeman Saturday Evening Post and Scripps Howard. He wrote The Atlantic System How War Came and a Huey Long biography.

County High Schools Announce 451 Graduates Dates

Roy Thompson, county superintendent, released graduation schedules for 451 seniors across seven high schools. Amelia High School holds commencement May 20 at 8 p.m. in New Richmond fieldhouse with student speakers, after a May 15 baccalaureate. Batavia, Bethel Tate, Felicity Franklin, Goshen, and Williamsburg also set May baccalaureates and May commencements with named speakers.
