County approves road widening for East Gate Center
Clermont County Commissioners authorize a $50 million East Gate Shopping Center project. They approve widening and extending East Gate Boulevard to serve the development and upgrade the corridor now rather than later. An extension will run north of SR 32 to mirror the south side. Prohibition begins January 16, 1920 under the Volstead Act.

Arson Probes Bethel Fires Tie Three Blazes Together
Bethel area fires last Wednesday spanned a dry grass pile a storage barn and a rear storage building near SR 125 with investigators leaning toward deliberate ignition. William Lee Dumford, 20, of 126 North Charity Street, was arrested near the scene on a burglary charge and released on $1000 bond while on probation for a drug case.

60 Day Vote Limit Set For Issues
Secretary of State Ted W. Brown announced a bipartisan measure approved by Ohio's Legislature. The law requires school tax levy issues and other elections to be filed with Boards of Elections at least 60 days before the election, replacing the previous 25 day window. Absentee ballots will be prepared 45 days prior to all elections to ensure voters receive them in time.

Two boys injured in Batavia Junior High knife incident
Robert Smith 12 and Mackie Harbor 13 were examining Harbor’s pocket knife on Batavia Junior High School playground when Smith suffered a three inch deep cut on his outer thigh. Both boys are from Batavia and were treated at Christ Hospital where Smith is listed in fair condition. The incident occurred Monday at 11:30 am. Also, Ohio traffic officials approved abandonment of portions of old routes in Clermont County effective May 24, reverting them to local control.
