Clermont Bicentennial Communities Designated

The American Revolution Bicentennial Administration designated Batavia Chile Amelia Pierce Township and Union Township in Clermont County as Bicentennial Communities. Announcement was made Thursday May 13 by Congressman William H. Harsha. Local chairmen named Speidel Napper Ireton Luebbers Thomas.

Clermont youths to gain from doubled SPEDY grant

Clermont County secures a 201000 grant from Southwestern Ohio Manpower Consortium for the Economically Disadvantaged Summer Program SPEDY for Oct 1 1976 to Sept 30 1977 doubling last year’s funding. The program aims to provide short term work for youths 14 to 21 while keeping them in school and connecting them with community services.

Clermont County seeks new justice centers amid overcrowding

County officials from Clermont County Juvenile Court and the Sheriff's Department urge construction of adult and juvenile detention and rehabilitation centers. A June levy plan funds a three story adult center and a juvenile facility on Ohio 222 near Batavia with capacity for 20 boys and 10 girls. The plan aims to reduce sending youths to Columbus and provide classrooms and trades training for inmates as overcrowding worsens with East Fork Park nearby.

Clermont County Joins Emergency Help Plan For Low Income

An emergency assistance program for low income residents is to be set up in Clermont County within weeks. The plan includes an emergency energy program to repair homes with weather stripping and insulation, funded federally and run by existing agencies. It will also cover overdue fuel bills, emergency food stocks, and Rent-A-Kid jobs for youths ages 13 to 15, with local communities bearing most responsibilities.
