Pioneer George H. Hill of Milford Dies at Rest
George H. Hill a renowned Clermont county figure died at his Milford home last Thursday at a good age. A staunch Republican, he served two terms as county surveyor and earned respect for high standards. He also was a county school examiner and taught school in earlier years. A reader of the Courier, Hill had recently retired from civil engineering. He was remembered as a good Christian man.

Taft Tours N and W Line Amid Crowded Stopovers
President Taft traveled the N and W railroad in his special car last Wednesday from Cincinnati, greeting large crowds at Batavia and Williamsburg. In Batavia he spoke for fifteen minutes on his mission, his voice clear and direct as the Mason ic Colored Band played. At Williamsburg he received loud cheers and a brief, favorable address, marking the first sighting of many locals.

Death of Jessee Meader in Cincinnati and Batavia funeral
Jessee Meader son of S. M. Buerkle died in Cincinnati last Sunday after a 16 month illness. He was well regarded and had many friends. He was taken to a Cincinnati hospital for treatment, then declined and died. Remains were brought to Batavia Sunday and funeral held at his parents home Monday. Burial was in Union Cemetery.

Old Shofstall House Loss Destroys Underground Railroad Landmark
A fire destroyed an 1824 building near Decatur once owned by Mrs. BE M. Shofstall. Known for Civil War era Underground Railroad activity, it housed Dr. G. Norton family members over the years. Occupants were away when the blaze started.
