The Bypass 50 bridge between Milford and Miamiville closes May 4 for six to eight weeks of repairs with a Cunningham Road detour. Clermont County plans CECA dedication May 28 for the Children's Care Center Batavia with public inspection and a $45,000 homeless children's home. Bids for Amelia to Batavia sewer extension came in at $261,604, part of a $1.6 million project. EDA pledged $910,400 for phase two. County Park District negotiates with Milford, YMCA for Camp Sims purchase and may seek Federal grants. District holds Knoop property for conservation and scouts project. Kahle Field and adjacent land await potential park development with a rough $60,000 building plan. no action yet.

Supervisor Reports NYC Program Will Become Permanent

David Smith says after the new tract is signed in August the NYC am program will be permanent. Three units Tri-County Price Hill Clermont operate with minimal staff. The program serves 16 and 17 year old drop outs from low income families and aims to stimulate the county economy and provide training.

Two Missing After Aluminum Boat Capsizes in Little Miami River

Three men rode a 12 foot aluminum boat from Loveland to Newtown when it capsized near Milford. Robert Gibbs and Paul Barnes are missing and presumed drowned, Donald Gibbs escaped to shore. Fire units from Milford, Terrace Park and Newtown searched the river as the boat drifted past Kellogg Avenue.

Free Store opens in Clermont County to aid needy

The Clermont County Community Council Free Store began April 22 at the Service Center in Batavia. It will operate Wednesdays from noon to 3 and Saturdays, in cooperation with the Salvation Army and other agencies, seeking donations of usable washers, baby items, furniture, beds, refrigerators, and children’s clothing.

Clermont County Judges Order License Hold During Suspension

Clermont County Court judges Chris Erhardt Lawrence Carlier and Chris Rosenhoffer rule that suspended licenses sent to the state BMV are often not returned to owners. They direct Clerk Russell L. Simmons to hold licenses for the suspension period and return them to owners instead of forwarding to the BMV.

The Clermont County grand jury returned indictments against 10 persons. Burglary charges target Levi Hillard 28 Batavia two counts William R Miley 43 Ripley two counts James E Dolch Jr 18 Goshen two counts and one auto larceny. Carry concealed weapons include James M Garrett 19 Cincinnati and James E Cook 26 Cincinnati. Lloyd Stone 18 Williamsville and Eileen A Jones 23 Loveland face check forgery. Jerry Thompson 46 Midland faces non-support. Rick Vandergriff 19 Hamersville and Terry Scalf 23 Bethel second charge sale and delivery of hallucinogens.

Lions Sponsor Local Circus In Owensville

The Northeastern Lions present a home area circus at Owensville High School grounds on Friday and Saturday with shows at 6 and 8 pm and 2 30 pm on Saturday. Feature acts include Baby Ann Marie the tiny performing elephant along with aerialists jugglers and clowns. Proceeds fund needy causes knothole baseball and delegates to Girls and Boys State.

Alva E. Hendrixson 101 Dies. Felicity Native

Alva E. Hendrixson died May 4 at Holmes Hospital Cincinnati at age 101. Burial was in Felicity Cemetery. Born April 24, 1871, he was a former blacksmith, salesman, grocer, and longtime insurance agent. Survived by son Brice and wife Ruth of Batavia and daughter Cecile L. Killin and husband Edwin of Mt. Washington. He belonged to Felicity Methodist Church Bethel IOOF Lodge and Rebeccah Lodge.

Williamsburg 176th committee lists entertainment for the June 15 16 17 celebration. On Thursday June 9 the Williamsburg High School Band performs and Friday features a Variety Show hosted by Mike Tangie of WKRC with the Hedleston Brothers and a return engagement of the Booths are still selling booths and seeking more participants.

Burke Gift Presented for Clermont County Hospital

J Kermit Smith, Williamsburg chairman of the Clermont County Hospital Committee, accepted the first 50000 of a 250000 gift from the Edmund Burke estate at the hospital site. Mrs John Shahood and her husband presented the gift and Mrs Shahood voiced a wish that the Burkes could have shared the moment. Fred Khoury accompanied them. Smith thanked the Shahoods on behalf of Clermont County citizens.

Hospital Sewer Grants Backed as New Funding Approved

Clermont County adopts a $910,400 grant to expand sewer service Batavia Afton area while bids for hospital to Batavia Township plant connect gain $281,604 to $335,081 from six contractors. The 11-county Ohio Valley group boosts the project with a $113,800 bonus.

Scouter Carl Bertrand Receives Silver Beaver Award

Carl Bertrand of 490 Roney Lane was awarded Scouting's Silver Beaver at the Dan Beard Council annual dinner held May 7 before 700 attendees at the Beverly Hills Club.
