Batavia High School article argues public opinion shapes county policy and that a single county manager is not a cure. It calls for capable administration, budget discipline, higher salaries, and new tax income to attract industry, urging an aroused public to promote Clermont County’s achievements.
Mac McFarland of Batavia and 254 peers cited for academic achievement at Oberlin College. The top student cohort includes Phi Beta Kappa election and Comfort Scholarship awards, with Woodrow Wilson Fellowship recently granted to one recipient.
Clermont County Republican Party sponsors a fundraising kickoff dinner at Batavia American Legion on Rt. 74. Proceeds aim to raise up to 3000 for the 1962 elections with tickets priced at 12.50 each. Attendees include Congressman Harsha and Bob Taft, with over 200 tickets already sold.
Clermont County youths take a three Saturday course on railroad history operation administration and safety by the Railroad Community Service Committee of Greater Cincinnati with Dan Beard Council. Participants include Joseph Speer James Keplinger Roy Tobergia David Speer and Elmer Pringle.
The Ba tavia PTA meets in the high school auditorium on Thursday May 10 at 8 p.m. Miss Doris Wood Claremont County Librarian will be guest speaker. Desmond Cole minister will give the invocation. Officers will be installed by Mrs Homer Mosbacker. A tap duet by Molly Hoberg and Marci Evans. Refreshments by Sylvia Fitzpatrick fourth grade Pauline Foucht fifth grade and eighth grade.
Secretary of State Ted W. Brown issued a non profit charter to Branch Hill Post 5354 Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U S in Miami Township. Initial trustees are James H. Cleveland of Cincinnati Robert M. Weissman of Loveland and Robert J. Whitaker of Loveland with Albert Kyde of Branch Hill as statutory agent.
Mt Holly United Church of Christ will honor all mothers at the regular worship service on Sunday May 13. A memento will be given to mothers whose families attend. Rev Samuel B Wenger will deliver the message titled Gods Radiant Children. Sunday school precedes the service which begins at 10 45 am.
The Goodwill truck will collect usable clothing shoes and repairable articles on Monday May 21 in Batavia and Mt. Carmel Summerside areas for the Goodwill Industries Rehabilitation Center to support opportunities for the handicapped.
The Clermont Courier will skip its Tuesday edition next week and be combined with the Thursday edition to offer merchants a larger audience for ads. The move supports a special Clermont County board of education section and aims for maximal home reach since the 1957 progress edition.
In Newtonsville, Allen E. Reynolds defeats incumbent Charles F. Clark by 31 votes 1335 to 1304 with Eugene Van Lendingham third at 372. Clark may request a recount amid the tight result. GOP side sees Arthur Blake 1722 to 967 for Bernard Harris for commissioner.
Richard White presented the Cub Scout Pack 443 charter to Amelia Elementary PTA president Mrs. William Pommert at the May 1 PTA meeting. The largest Black Hawk District pack earned first at Clermont County Fair and first at the Big Show in Cincinnati Gardens.
The Greater Amelia Businessmen's Association and Coca-Cola Bottling Works Co conduct a free voluntary bike safety inspection at Amelia School on Main St from 10 am to 4 pm. Don Patton presides, Joe Benzinger operates the Ward Safety Lane, and Patrolman Alfred Haley oversees. This is Clermont County’s first 1962 bike check, last held in 1959.
Mayor Richard C. Jamie son issues a proclamation designating May 14 19 as Clean Up Paint Up Week in Batavia. He urges residents to improve the village appearance not only for the week but throughout the year.
Goshen township zoning plan for precincts D E and F is displayed at the Farm Bureau Store and the fire department. The zoning commission includes Ray Feree Frank Longevin Don Siebern George Fender and Ralph House. A public hearing is scheduled May 28 at 8 p m at the junior high school to gather voter input on the rural and residential plan.
Memorial Day parade plans grow as groups file entries for the Union Township event. Mrs. Bertha Pieper, general chair, says invocations and benedictions will be prayed at Mt. Moriah Cemetery and a veteran memorial talk will be given there. Local clubs, scout units, fire departments, garden club and horseback riders are already reserving spots. Floats welcome with noncommercial, nonadvertising rules. entries can contact Mrs. Pieper at Hopper Hill.
Williamsville Tabasco Civic Association held the second of three programs inviting Carl Shephard, chairman of the Union Township Zoning Commission, to discuss zoning ideas. He urged zoning to adapt with changing conditions and answered questions from an attentive audience. Avis Strait announced a county official program for the fourth Friday at Withamsville fire hall.

Miss Cynthia Stowell fourteen, first freshman to win Bethel Tate school queen honor during Youth Week. She was selected from six contestants by judges Rep Charles W Jackson John D Erhardt Batavia attorney and zoning chair Roy C Thompson county schools chief. Cynthia is daughter of Harold and Mrs Stowell and granddaughter of Steve and Mrs Tull who run Main Delicatessen near Amelia.
