Prospects Bright For Better Roads In Clermont County

Clermont County faces allocations from the motor vehicle and gasoline tax fund totaling 27767.29 available for county road repair and maintenance. The county board of commissioners considers spending rules while township trustees will apply state tax funds to township road repairs. Two Bethel youths sought in multiple robberies

Randy Dial and Petey Jones both 19 and 20 escaped the Osborne Honor Camp near Sandusky last weekend. Sheriff Clyde Dericks and Clermont County police link them to two robberies in Clermont County and a Cincinnati service station theft. They are tied to the Handy Store break in Bethel and to Hannah's Swap Shop in Hamersville where rifles revolvers and ammunition were seized.

Clermont County names eight members to planning commission

The Clermont County Board of Commissioners named an eight member Planning Commission from sixteen nominees. Members include John R. Jurgensen W R Frye Jack Fuller Charles J Eades Richard Stevens Edward Miller J Kermit Smith and Joseph Urban with terms ranging from one to three years. The panel will assist in roads water sewer recreation and residential planning and will discuss Clermont County involvement in a circumferential highway with the Hamilton County Expressway.

West Clermont District Sets Special Election on 14.5 Mill Levy

The West Clermont Board of Education schedules a district wide special election for June 4 to approve a five year operating levy of 14.5 mills. Voters from Union Pierce Ohio and Anderson townships in Hamilton County may register by May 24 at the Batavia board office. The levy requires 60 percent to pass and will fund salaries and school operations across consolidated districts.

Fire destroys farmhouse home of elderly widow in Newtown

A five room two story farmhouse on a lane off Mt. Carmel Road near Broadwell Road burned Saturday night. Owner Frances Patterson 83 widow lived alone and was helped from the home by firefighters. Loss estimated at 7000. Fire caused by furnace embers on the shingle roof. Neighbors Walter and Mrs Bickel alerted crews. water supplied by Ohio Gravel Co. trucks. Firefighters faced blocked road and used 3000 gallons of water.

Ex Pastor Resigns to Join North Dakota Conference

Rev. Cecil Leek former Mt. Holly Congregational pastor and Hamersville district minister at large resigns as assistant superintendent of the Ohio Conference effective July 31. He will become associate superintendent of the North Dakota Conference after years of frequent visits including Christmas and Maundy Thursday services.

U S Representative G. Mc Connell visited West Clermont and Beavercreek districts on April 22 to study needs for new classrooms. Data requested includes enrollment figures for 1954-56, current and future classroom counts, local and state funding gaps, and estimated construction costs.
