Gen T Q Ashburn Dies In Washington Hospital

Batavia notes the passing of Major General Thomas Q Ashburn at Walter Reed Hospital Washington D C on May 3 1941 after months of illness. He is buried May 5 1941 at Arlington National Cemetery. He served from 1897 at the U S Military Academy and held major Coast Artillery and Field Artillery commands in World War I. He rose to Brigadier General in 1924 and served in France and Germany with occupation forces. He leaves a widow Francis Fee Ashburn and son Thomas Q Ashburn Jr with siblings in Batavia and Los Angeles.

Robert Dorsey Again Receives Signal Honor

Robert Dorsey, manager of the Kroger store in Batavia, earns a place on the 1941 Roll of Honor of Community Builders. The award notes his tire and effort in civic activities and local projects. Rev. C R Spangler of the Methodist Church nominated him. Dorsey has served as a trustee of the church.

Batavia PTA to Install Officers at May Meeting

Batavia Parent-Teacher Association will meet Thursday at 8 p.m. in the school auditorium to install officers for the coming year. Miss Myrtle Wilson will be president, Mrs. Marjorie Harrison treasurer, Mrs. Martha Jenike secretary, and John Friend vice president. Installation will be conducted by Mrs. A. S. Curnutt of Dayton. County Farm Program participation and tax delinquency drive

Clermont county farmers will participate in the 1941 AAA Farm Program with 80.1 percent of farmers and 81.2 percent of cropland signed up. Participants receive corn and wheat payments, loans, and insurance. A tax delinquency collection drive will publish lists and move to tax lien sales, with about $90,000 due and payments urged to avoid penalties.

The games featured large scores with many one sided results this season. Hethel defeated Milford Hagies 8 to 5 while Buford crushed Nicholsville 12 to 5. Mt Orab edged Milford Merchants 21 to 9 and New Richmond Giants beat Shumards 14 to 3 in a protested match. Next Sunday Milford Eagles visit Williamsville and Nicholsville meet Bethel followed by Buford at New Richmond and New Richmond Giants at Mt Orab with Williamsburg at Shumard’s.

New Wheat Farm Allotments Announced by County AAA

Clermont County AAA announces 1942 wheat allotments. Any farm with no wheat planted in 1939 40 or 41 must file a written allotment request with the Batavia AAA office by June 1 1941. The notice was issued by Edward C Saxton chairman of the Clermont County AAA Committee.

Amelia High Protest Leads to Batavia County Championship

Amelia High protested a late mis call by the umpire during the second playoff game, trailing Batavia 5 to 4 in the sixth inning when the batter returned to the plate. A replay extended the game to 11 innings, Batavia winning 7 to 6, and the final game saw Batavia win 5 to 4. Batavia advances to the district playoff in Cincinnati for a shot at the state tournament in Columbus next week.

Liberty Bell theme to headline Miami Valley Exposition

The Miami Valley Industry and Defense Exposition in Cincinnati May 28 to June 8 will feature a Liberty Bell of American Progress as its central display.
