Safety doubts mark Moscow nuclear plant meeting

At an April 27 Moscow meeting, engineer Victor Griffin condemned lack of waste reprocessing and safe storage. Critics warned about radiation risk to Moscow Elementary School and nearby residents while advocates pressed liability and public input for nuclear plants.

County moves Clermont Elections to Riverside complex

Clermont County begins moving five offices to a new $719 600 two story Riverside Drive complex in Batavia with the Elections office first on May 4. Other offices to follow include the Board of Commissioners Board of Education County Planning Commission and Agricultural Extension Service. The move is largely in house with county employees handling tasks including moving the Elections computer for the Datavote ballot system.

Fenner Convicted in Clermont County Manslaughter Trial

John F. Fenner, 31, of Goshen, found guilty by a 12 member jury of voluntary manslaughter in the June 30 1975 shooting death of his wife Connie. The verdict followed a mid trial murder charge reduction and a five hour deliberation. Fenner's bond and pre sentencing investigation were noted. He plans a new trial motion. prosecutors referenced a videotaped confession. A Goshen School District special election levy of 3.6 mills passed 693 to 569 with wide precinct support including Warren County. Fenner disputed the confession saying police questioning blurred fantasy and reality.

Beechwood Villa tenants push back at management protest

Picketers gathered at the Clermont County Courthouse in Batavia to support a Beechwood Villa Tenants Union formed after a dispute with manager Lawrence Lyons and his wife Betty. About 40 families reportedly moved out amid alleged high rents, evictions, and maintenance woes as a June rent strike looms.

Foreclosure Sought for Westcott Square Apartments Complex

Union Township Trustees seek FHA foreclosure to sell and complete Westcott Square at Glen Este, after work halted two years ago. Only 3 of 25 buildings are occupied, with 50 hazards cited by Clermont County inspectors. If no response, case may go to Prosecuting Attorney Robert A. Jones.

HUD grants fund Clermont County projects and concerns

Clermont County Commissioners won three HUD grants totaling 10 290 for a housing specialist office 20 000 for surface drainage and 45 000 for courthouse elevator installation The panel questioned why higher priority projects were skipped including a Bethel school complex conversion They also sought 11 000 for drainage planning in Goshen Township but HUD funded only planning efforts The housing office aims to assist low and moderate income families with housing advice tenant landlord guidance and a one year home repair and winterizing program
