The Clermont County Red Cross reports on hospital supplies and knitted garments sent to the depot for war refugees. The Union Two Defense Council meets at Mt Carmel Glen Este to organize scrap metal salvage with a depot at Route 74 Nine Mile Road and plans to collect all scrap metal except tin cans.

County Baseball Off To Big Start In 1942

Clermont County opened the 1942 baseball season with all ten teams in action. New Richmond Giants beat Felicity 17 to 2, Georgetown defeated East End Merchants 20 to 7, Mt. Crab downed Bethel 19 to 4, Williamstown Donnworth Dodgers blanked Edenton 14 to 0, Goshen beat Neville, with schedule highlighting Goshen at Williamsburg and other matchups on May 10.

Batavia Rotarians Rename To Speedliners For 1950s Season

The Batavia Speedliner AA Knothole team, aged 17 and under, will play next Sunday in the Cincinnati Eastern Division. Formerly the Batavia Rotarians, they finished third among 65 teams last year. Sponsored by Whitmer Speedliner Roller Rink, most games occur in Cincinnati with some at Batavia.

Summer Round Ups Begin For School Health

In 1925 the Ohio Congress of Parents and Teachers sponsored the Summer Round Up free health examinations for children entering school in September. Programs are held statewide with County Health Department cooperation to ensure children are in good health before enrollment. Parents are urged to check local schedules and ensure attendance to maximize school funding tied to attendance. the Mt. Carmel Glen Este auditorium hosts the annual event on May 14 at 9 30 for all children.

Wheat Marketing Vote Carries In Clermont County

Early returns show about 75 percent of wheat growers voting May 2 in the National Wheat Marketing Quota Referendum favored quotas for 1942. In Ohio 57 percent supported quotas, Clermont county tally 66 votes cast with 49 for and 17 against, 74 percent in favor. The law requires a two thirds majority for quotas.

Hundreds in Clermont County face induction next week

A tentative list shows over 120 men from Clermont County to be inducted into the armed forces at Fort Thomas next week. The county already has more than 900 men who have left for service in various branches, with dozens more from Board No. 1 and Board No. 2 slated for induction or rejection on specified dates.
