County Board weighs automated voting system purchase

Cler mont County Board of Elections discusses Datavote ballot punch and Electronic Ballot Counter to speed up counting. A 600card precinct could be counted in three minutes. 600 machines would cost about 87000 dollars. Trial planned for November with reference to Ventura and Athens counties.

Mrs. Ellis Resigns After 17 Years at The Courier

Mrs. Ellis steps down as managing editor after 17 years with The Courier Clermont County. Jerald B. Fortney, publisher, says her resignation will be a great loss and announces upcoming staff changes. Ellis began in 1955 with Amelia Star-Review, joined Courier in 1956, became associate editor in 1957 and managing editor in 1963.

UC Clermont College Dedication Set May 23

Dedication of Clermont General and Technical College will be held Wednesday May 23 at 10 am on the plaza in front of the main entrance. UC President Warren Bennis Clermont College Dean Edith E Peters and UC Board chair Mrs Jane D Earley will speak. A reception and tour follow the ceremony.

Grand Jury To Hear Partin Murder Case

Eugene L. Partin 42 was bound over to the Clermont County Grand Jury after a preliminary hearing for first degree murder in his wife Donna Partin 29 who was found dead with a fractured skull after an April 13 incident at the Lawson home on Graves Rd Partin allegedly followed his wife with a gun and dragged her from the home with bond set at 100000 for murder and 10000 for breaking and entering the home of Elmer Lawson.

Clermont Voters Face May 8 Ballot on Local and State Issues

Clermont County residents face school bond issues and levies in multiple districts including U S Grant Vocational West Clermont New Richmond Dermont Northeastern Milford Loveland Forest Hills and Tate Union Townships vote on fire police and construction levies A statewide primary turnout is expected to be light with 286 local issues on the ballot and 5.238 million eligible voters statewide.

Batavia Guard Unit On EPA Assignment

Ohio National Guard unit joins EPA for a year long environmental effort May 5 6 to survey Lake Grant near Mt. Crab and 95 stations on tributaries to 20 Ohio lakes for eutrophication threats. Capt Edward G Brenner notes 125 Guardsmen from 20 units will collect monthly samples at three Lake Grant locations.

Nature awakens at Hocking Hills State Park along S R 56 374 and 664 twelve miles southwest of Logan.
