Bethel in Clermont county claims the oldest practicing physician in the United States in Dr W E Thompson who will be 98 on July 6 1933. He is alert hardy with normal eyesight and a slight defect in his bearing and remains active in town life. Thompson has witnessed many changes from radios to automobiles and telephones and continues to contribute to the community without seeking praise.

Batavia High School Commencement Closes Year

The Batavia High School commencement was held at Town Hall Friday night with a large audience. The program included piano and violin solos, salutatory and valedictory addresses, vocal duets, a class address, and presentations of diplomas. Faculty and certificate recipients are listed. alumni banquet set for May 6 at Moscow High School Auditorium. Ohio rural school board met and hired teachers for Lindale and Twelve Mile, with resignations and assignments noted.

Hamer Lodge in Ow ensville Holds Notable Inspection

Hamer Lodge F A M Ow ensville reported the best attended district lodge in four years. Last Saturday night Samuel McMahan raised his son Donald of Mason. visitors from many lodges filled the hall. Inspector Rein of Ripley praised attendance and work while Dr T Mitchell secretary commended the books and shared a South family tree note. refreshments followed.

Clermont County Bar Association Reorganized At Batavia Court House

Fifteen Clermont County lawyers met at Batavia court house last Friday night to revive the County Bar Association. Notaries will face an examination before nomination. Judge Charles G. White was elected president with Orville Halbisch as secretary and Harry McKeever as examining notaries chairman. The county has 42 lawyers, most expected to join. An outing is set for May 25 at Terrace Park Country Club. Resolution committees were named for various lawyers and judges.

Dowdney Wins Place on Democratic County Committee

Following the death of Simeon O. Weaver a vacancy opened on the Democratic County Central Committee for Batavia township. At a Friday meeting in the probate office with Chairman Kimball presiding two nominees were voted on with W. W. Dowdney winning and J. F. Hartman as runner up. Orville Halbisch named secretary. The Loveland post office issue was not raised.

Cream truck crash on Route 74 injures driver in Williamsburg

Harold Hancock of Williamsburg operating a Beatrice Creamery Co truck bound for Cincinnati lost control Thursday morning at Olive Branch. He struck Joe Laffier, the truck fouled a garage, then hit an iron bridge and dumped cream eggs and butter. Escape from fire, rescue by Elias Whitt, truck and load lost. Hancock burned, whisked to safety, Whitt burned leg. both treated at Stoddard home then at Hancock home.

Batavia kicked off baseball season with a 13 to 11 victory over Amelia as the slugfest produced 38 Batavia hits off 2 Amelia pitchers and 14 for Amelia off Hogberg. A. Garner A. Bailey Kinner Hogberg and South produced the big hits with an eight hit fourth inning rally for seven runs.

Clermont County Retains Intangible Tax Distribution

The Clermont county auditor B L Ketchum distributed six thousand one hundred forty eight dollars and eleven cents of intangible tax money that the state had diverted to other counties. A Supreme Court ruling allowed the funds to stay in Clermont and be paid out to taxpayers.

The Senior Class dance at Batavia High School held in the Armory Friday night after commencement drew large crowds of locals and visitors. Music was plentiful and well received with compliments on the assembly’s appearance and tasteful decorations.

Grand Jury Returns Three Bills in Clermont County Session

Clermont county grand jury met Friday with 20 witnesses, eight cases, returning three bills. Burglary and larceny charges against Ward and Davis. Ridgeway charged with shooting with intent to kill. Several others ignored or continued. Jury also recommended installing fixtures in the county jail for a shower and running water.

92nd Birthday for Civil War Veteran at Batavia

Joseph W. Homan, a Civil War soldier, celebrated his 92nd birthday last Sunday at home in Batavia with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He remains in good health for his age despite an injured hip and is noted as one of the oldest citizens. Other locals mentioned include Joseph Platter at 95 and James Hewitt at 87. The day was pleasantly spent.

The Williamsburg School announces its 47th Commencement events including Baccalaureate on May 7 at 8 p m at the Methodist Church with Rev C W Bremer directing. Ohio State Students Tour Batavia Soil Conditions

A group of 20 OSU students two girls and 18 boys visited Batavia Clermont county last Friday to inspect soil testing. They found land cloddy from heavy rainfall with much still to be plowed. The party led by G W Conroy traveled toward West Union Portsmouth and back.

Batavia Bay Batavia Ohio spring quarter promotions in infantry regiments of the Reserve Officers Training Corps at Ohio State University were announced by Col. G. L. Townsend. The new list includes Wm. Massey of Batavia named supply sergeant, a sophomore in commerce and administration majoring in journalism. Highway Department to Protect Natural Beauty in Road Work

State Highway Director O W Merrel urged executives and engineers to preserve natural beauty and forestry during surveys and construction for maintenance, repair, and new roads. He said cooperation with forestry preservation will ensure existing trees and shrubs are protected or replaced with equal beauty when removal is necessary.

Mt Carmel Grange hosts a home betterment program Saturday night featuring songs and talks. Guests Mrs Kincaid and Mrs McGraw read excerpts and discuss saving labor devices and home beautification. Wm Petch leads a talk on storing clothing. The program ends with a reading by Hood and a rendition of My Old Kentucky Home. A Flower Club planning meeting was also held.
