Sewer bills rise to fund East Fork project in Clermont

Batavia Ohio residents will face a minimum monthly increase of 50 to finance the Middle East Fork cleanup with OEPA corrections. County officials say $7.5 million in fixes across plants and lift stations are needed, plus $3.5 million in sewer revenue bonds. The commission approved the rate hike two to one, with concerns about debt obligations and bond ratings. The Ohio Clean Water Act deadline requires plants to meet effluent standards by July 1988.

Voting delayed on Clermont County sewer bond and bids

Bids for the Middle East Fork sewage system and a bond issue to fund Clermont County’s share are paused until May 15. Commissioner Charles Clendenin opposed both resolutions, with a possible 2–1 pass later. Officials recommended awarding $8.785 million in construction contracts to seven firms, against its $8.896 million peer estimate. County plans $36 million in sewer revenue bonds and warns EPA grants may be at risk if construction doesn’t start by October. The project aims to ease East Fork River overflows that have halted Bethel growth and strained Amelia Batavia plant capacity.

Business education partnership formed in Clermont County

A formal proclamation on April 19 marks the creation of a business and education partnership in Clermont County schools. Led by the Clermont County Chamber of Commerce and the county board of education, the effort will have industry volunteers coach juniors and seniors in job application and interviewing skills at Goshen and Batavia high schools. Bethel Tate Third Graders Resume Sorcerer and Friends Rehearsals
