Harold Epperson, 50, of 4621 SR 276 Batavia, died at 10:55 am Tuesday while helping clean tornado debris on George Shreve’s farm east of Newtonsville. Dr. Phillip A Pfalzgraff deputy Clermont County Coroner ordered the body sent to Hamilton County for an autopsy.
Ambrose D. Hall 20 of 110 Main St Milford was found guilty of interfering with police during the arrest of two Outlaws on Animals charges. He received 50 dollars in fines and costs, 30 days jail suspended, and six months probation. The arresting witnesses had their charges dismissed last week. Be Kind to Animals week runs May 5 to 11 near Batavia with dog adoptions offered 1 to 4 p.m.
Clermont County board notes 28 677 registered voters for the May 7 primary. Key GOP races include County Commissioners two seats and Sheriff, with two Democrats challenging the Sheriff post. State and local races feature unopposed Republicans and Democrats, plus three constitutional amendments and school district levies in Clermont County communities.
Two Clermont County residents receive high honors for service in Vietnam. Lieut. Col. Dow A. Rogers Jr. earns the Silver Star at Nha Trang for a daring C 130 drop mission. Capt. Raymond L. Lincer receives the Air Force Commendation Medal at Keesler for meritorious work at Tuy Hoa. Rogers, a 1941 Milford High grad, led a critical supply drop after a dangerous flight through mountainous terrain. Lincer, an Owensville High graduate, is attending a staff officers course at Keesler following a 1962 commission.
Community relief efforts surged after the Clermont County tornado with volunteers from Wayne, Stonelick and Union Townships aiding in cleanup. Government agencies and Red Cross assist victims via loans from SBA and Farmers Home Administration, with Operation Newtonsville coordinating supplies and shelter.
State Highway Department opened bids Tuesday for repairing the Bullskin Creek bridge on U S 52 at Chile. A floor failure from a tractor trailer crash closed the span. work aims to complete and reopen by early August.
