Rains delayed work on the Stonelick Dam in Northern Clermont as the lake rose and part of the dirt barrier washed away. Bulldozers and shovels limited the damage while workers kept up progress amid wet conditions.
Mayor A C Munden warns residents under Village Code section 302 that dogs and fowls found roaming public spaces or entering private yards face up to 25 dollars in fines per offense. He notes Clermont County enforces dog quarantine and rabies treatments cost 4744.25 dollars, with many complaints about damaged flowers and gardens from roaming animals.
Howard Nelson announces a new Buick agency on Milford outskirts with building expansion planned after opening. Nelson formerly secretary treasurer of Jennings Buick in Lockland and has been with Buick Sales since 1937 apart from four years in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
Prosecuting Attorney Ray Bradford announces a 1949 meeting of Clermont County Justices of Peace Mayors Constables and police chiefs in Batavia Ohio to review Ohio criminal code sections for Justice and Mayor Courts. A prepared booklet outlining procedures will be distributed to attendees and others may join.
Char ls Staderman seaman recruit USNR son of Mr and Mrs Arthur Staderman Route 2 Amelia Ohio is among 600 naval reservists taking a two week training cruise with a five ship destroyer squadron that docked in Tampa after Caribbean maneuvers and will return to New Orleans April 2 for home.
Cincinnati author Charles A. McCarthy will address the Legion and Auxiliary at Batavia Armory on Friday April 1 at 9 00 p m. He will discuss his latest book Popular Government. McCarthy is a World War I veteran and five of his sons served in World War II.
The Rev. M. L. Bates resigns as pastor of Lindale Baptist Church to devote full time to writing and publishing religious tracts. He has served two and a half years, effective June 1. At the March meeting the church voted to stop sending flowers to sick members and friends, but each Sunday School class will send cards to their sick members. Services are Sundays at 10:00 am and 8:00 pm, and Wednesdays at 8:00 pm.
Mrs. Kyle Taylor of Glen Este heads the Clermont County unit Cancer Society drive starting April 1 with a slate of community chairmen and officers. A unit meeting at Larada Inn in Hamlet set plans for the campaign and announced leaders including Mrs. Cecile Glancy, Mrs. Byron Ross, and others. Also noted is a WC T U broadcast by national president D Leigh Colvin on WHKC Columbus at 4 30 p m Tuesday in April.
Archbishop of Manila bestows honorary canon on Msgr Ferdinand A Evans of Fayetteville for heroism during the bombardment of Manila on February 24 1945. He led soldiers to a Philippine cathedral, broke a safe, and carried the jeweled ostensorium to safety amid bursting shells.
Revival services continue at the E U B Church in Batavia with Rev. Frye of Felicity as speaker. Services start each evening at 8 p m. A community sing follows at Monterey Presbyterian Church on Sunday April 3 at 8 p m.
A privately owned dump near Olive Branch is opened with county and state approval. Sanitarian Guy Smith says garbage will be buried to deter rats and supervised by Walter Whitney as the site serves licensed scavengers and the public for a fee.
A Sunday blaze damaged the roof of Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Stahl home near Newtonsville. Neighbor Mrs. Chester Hall alerted the Newtonsville Fire Department which arrived quickly and kept the fire from spreading. Estimated loss about 1500 dollars, likely started by chimney sparks. Tarpaulins and neighbor aid protected the roof.
Amelia Ohio luthier Mrs James R Carlisle has been invited to enter two violins in an international competition at The Hague Museum in June. Separate prizes for professionals and amateurs. seven jurists judge sound and five assess workmanship. The top instruments will be played by a renowned violinist at a concert in Deligentia hall. Carlisle, making violins forty years, has devised twenty five varnish formulas and won blue ribbons at the Ohio State Fair for four years and third place at Heifetz contest in New York among 124 entries.
Mr and Mrs Lee Howlett celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a family dinner at their Route 4 Batavia home on Tuesday March 29. The couple have four daughters five sons 24 grandchildren and one great grandson all of Clermont and Hamilton County. Mr Howlett is a 75 year old retired farmer and his wife Louvina is 74. They moved to Ohio in 1921 from Hillville Virginia.
Calvin Lewis and Howard Bissantz open a Batavia laundry and dry cleaning shop at Main and Water streets offering two hour service. Formerly located in Amelia, this marks the first time such rapid turnaround is available locally.
Clermont County Court House faces a rush as personal property tax returns must be filed by Thursday March 31 without penalty. Real estate taxes are due April 2, with April 10 for tax payments. overall collections lag behind last year.
Company B 147th Infantry Ohio National Guard in Batavia announces an all day open house on Wednesday April 6. The event features Company Inspection and drill ceremonies and a display of equipment. The unit received a satisfactory rating in the federal inspection held March 14.
A Goshen High School Boy Scout Court of Honor is set for Monday night April 11 at eight. Scouts from Goshen Edenton Milford Loveland Mulberry Newtonsville Owensville and Batavia will receive Tenderfoot through Life ranks with awards and a screening of The Scout Trail to Citizenship.
A girls trio from Asbury Theological Seminary Wilmore Kentucky will perform Negro spirituals hymns gospel songs and testimonies at Summerside Methodist Church on Sunday afternoon. The event continues a local musical outreach and invites all residents to attend.
Miss Jo Ann Jeffries a freshman in the University of Cincinnati College of Home Economics has been named to the Dean's list of the College announced by Miss Elizabeth Dyer Dean. Jeffries is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Herbert Jeffries.
Members of the CU Sunday School class of Summerside Methodist Church entertained Clermont County Home residents with singing and popular music. Rev J R Boggs directed the service and gave a sermon. Ruth Brown sang a solo while Darry Jones and son Tom played pieces. Cookies and candy were served after.
The century old Cedron bridge over Bull Skin Creek was sold by County Auditor Blyther Jones to Franklin Township farmer J A Sargent for 110 dollars. It will be torn down soon to allow construction of a 15000 steel bridge.
The Adams Brown and Clermont County Hereford Association announces its fifth annual show and sale at Georgetown Fair grounds on Saturday April 2 starting at 10 am. Seventy lots of Hereford bulls cows and heifers will be shown and offered for sale after the show. Auctioneer is Earl Martin Greensburg Ind and Sam B Marting Washington D C will be sales manager.
The dedication of the First Presbyterian Church addition in Batavia is postponed until after Easter. Pastor William Tait Paterson cites missing furnishings as the reason. Next Sunday’s sermon will be titled Three Crosses On a Hill.
