A historical political tirade arguing President Wilson and Democrat leaders broke promises. It cites war notes after 1914 Lusitania sinking, claims of “He kept us out of war,” and accuses Jimmie Cox of false promises to aid schools, while asserting voters lost faith as the war ends.
The last will dated October 8 1919 directs payment of debts and funeral expenses. It leaves to daughter Mary all clothing pillows quilts and a gold watch and organ. It grants two parcels of land in Jackson township and all other real and personal property not otherwise mentioned to husband Samuel J Dachemin for life.
G. V. Hughes and Lucien Border of the Brown County Commissioners met the State Highway Department advisory board in Columbus to discuss two proposed roads through Brown County. One route would run about nine miles through the bootleg area and include the Ohio pike segment from Georgetown to the Clermont county line this summer. After preliminary work is finished the department will call for bids on construction.
Miss Callie Zurmuhle died at her Batavia home last Thursday morning after a week of severe illness. Survived by two sisters Miss Clara Zurmuhle and Mrs Obas Sprinz and a brother John Zurmuhle of Batavia. Funeral Saturday from the Presbyterian church with burial in Union Cemetery.
Dr. J O Gaskins administrator of Raymond Gaskins estate sues Hamilton county commissioners for 12000 damages claiming rats in the road and poor draft protection caused the truck to leave the embankment. P J Stymers moved household goods to Connersville Indiana last week and stored them in the Dennison building while employed there.
Sarepta McDonough transfers acre to Anton Valentine in Pierce Township for $1. Leonard and Minnie Wood sell 1 acre in Williamsburg Township to Joseph A Williams for $1. A broad set of deeds records transfers across Batavia Monroe and other townships with amounts listed as $1. Multiple parties including Adams Kredell Julius Schumann and Ellen Butler appear in transfers of 12 27 and 60 acres. The long catalog notes parcels ranging from 0.6 to 200 acres and various lots in Williamsburg Batavia and Pierce townships with nominal sums.
The final Community Meeting of the season will be celebrated at Favrer's ball with a program showcasing the best efforts of a large group of participants. The program begins at 7 16 with short snappy numbers, posters provide details.
Twenty scholarships valued at 120 each are offered to Ohio senior high students in lieu of registration fees for a four year course in agriculture or home economics at the Ohio State University. The State Superintendent of Public Instruction distributes the scholarships and will oversee a uniform competitive exam April 16 given by first and second grade high school principals. The state is divided into four sections with five scholarships available per section.
Callie Zurmuble born May 10 1858 in Switzerland emigrated with her family to Batavia in 1860s. She joined the Presbyterian church March 22 1874 and served as a faithful member, teacher, and aid society worker. She died March 26 1920 at age 62 after a life of devotion and quiet service to family and community.
Tuesday marked the end of the Swing Line as big flat cars carried its coaches from Norwood to Oklahoma. A local citizen lamented the closure while C Harris and Carl Wenzel oversaw dismantling. Periitown equipment also shipped to the same destination for reuse in building a new road from old material.
Citizens reported a vivid northern light around 9 o'clock Monday night, mistaking it for daylight from a Dayton source and the sky being lit by a searchlight piercing up to 100 miles. Observers were briefly anxious as officials cited solar disturbances as the cause.

After a lengthy discussion the Brown County Board of Education postponed establishing a county normal for another year due to poor road conditions. Clermont's normal was praised as most advantageous and students could travel there with little inconvenience. Local schools show large enrollment and expect growth next year with outside attendance.
Seed potatoes command prices from 2.75 to 5.50 per bushel this year. The author notes frost risk after growth and urges timely planting this week with a favorable moon and soil. It recalls the old saying that high seed potato prices deter planting by others, while last fall’s sale prices averaged around 2 per bushel.
William W. Drummond born April 16 1841 died March 18 1920 after a long ailment. He married Eliza Danbury June 16 1860. she died December 22 184. They had six children Alice Dempsy Stella Dempsy Charles Edward Clifford and Lewis. He remarried Mary Gillespy March 20 1887. she died August 10 1918. He served in Civil War 1861 1st Reg Battery F Light Artillery. He was a longtime member of the M E church of Afton and leaves children sisters and many friends to mourn his loss.

A wooden N and W railroad trestle between Mt Crab and Sardinia on White Oak burned last Thursday night after a flyer passed over it. The loss was light, traffic was suspended until Saturday morning, and mails were held up as the train ran without a messenger. Business is now normal.
The village of Milford advertises a $600 bond issue in this week’s Courier to fund fire hose and other equipment for the local fire company. Milford boasts a proud fire division ready for use.
The Georgetown Gazette urged local businesses to stay open after supper to attract farmers as the harvest season nears and labor is scarce. Batavia stores stay open until 8 pm and welcome the farmers’ trade, stressing mutual aid between merchants and growers.
Ohio officials delayed awarding the Clermont County Ohio pike contract after no bids were submitted. The high cost of living is blamed for the lack of bidders, with talk of shortening to a 14 foot width to attract interest. The State Highway Department will decide whether to re advertise for bids or adjust plans.
Country Club No. 60 hosted a March 26 afternoon gathering at Mrs. John Foster’s home with many Alpine Club members present as guests. Led by Mrs. Wilson the program included songs, readings, a diet talk, music by Hazel Wise and Elsie Foster, a potato recipe discussion, and current events, followed by lunch and St Patrick souvenir baskets. The next meeting is set for April 22 at Mrs. Jessie Parnell’s home.

Goshen high school will render the class play Bashful Mr Bobbs a three act comedy at the auditorium Saturday evening April 17. The strong cast promises rare entertainment as the district closes a creditable year under Supt F B Bishop. Beth el residents to vote April 97 on an 85000 bond for street repairs and rebuilding.
Discussion proposes directing half of automobile license tax revenue from each village township or city to its own road repair fund. Batavia may gain, and Clermont County rural route residents should list Clermont address to receive benefits. Funds expected early in spring to protect streets after construction.
Joseph F. Weaver, who moved to a farm near Moore's Fork two years ago from here, last Saturday purchased the A. T. Johnson property of Mrs. J. C. Dale and is understood to become a resident of our town again.
A large tobacco barn near Beechwood three miles east of Milford owned by Henry A Hodges burned last Thursday morning causing a loss of several thousand dollars. The structure held two crops of tobacco hay and farming implements all totaled as a loss. Workers had reported a morning fire the day before and it is suspected to have started from a stove spark.
Local tensions over yard fowl lead to summonses ordering families to corral flocks within a day. An ordinance would ban chickens from roaming, require keeping birds in parks, and allow public seizure and destruction of unowned chickens to curb garden damage.
